In this episode, I’m joined by Lisa Smartt. Lisa is a ground-breaking linguist who has studied language patterns in people’s final words for more than a decade. She’s also the author of the book Words at the Threshold: What We Say As We’re Nearing Death. We had a great conversation about higher callings, how her dad’s final days inspired and encouraged her to begin her journey in linguistics and study people’s final words, finding spirituality and your greater purpose, how she met and studied under Dr. Raymond Moody and his work with nonsense language, what happens during Near Death Experiences, life reviews during NDEs, learning to love more, opening and closing doors, finding patterns in nonsense language and the language of the dying, the process and methodology of studying more than 2,000 people’s final words, how the dying use metaphors related to their own lives to communicate, announcing the big event, being between two worlds, numbers, terminal lucidity (aka sunset day), God’s eyes, non-referential language, common phrases near death, sustained narratives, the study of blind NDEs and out-of-body experiences in the book Mindsight by Kenneth and Sharon Cooper, and non-linguistic communications (aka telepathy).
