The US Senate moved to agree funding and avert further shutdowns in the near term and lifted already steady US stocks. USD scraped back earlier losses and pushed higher against JPY with 10yr yields remaining under 2.65%.

US holiday meant that USD weakness persisted, aided by further relatively hawkish ECB comments, with risk sentiment remaining firm.

USD stabilised into US hours. The mild USD rebound seemed to trigger pullbacks in base and precious metals, bulks and the oil complex whilst stocks posted further gains.

US shutdown talks continue into early Monday and will weigh on USD and bonds whilst Germany’s SDP voted in favour of a grand coalition with Merkel’s CDU/CSU and so will lift EUR.
