  • Trailer for #67 Charlie Mullins – What’s Your Money Story?

In this last episode in this celebratory mini-series of the podcast, my guest is Charlie Mullins OBE.

Charlie is known as Britain's flushest tradesman and the celebrated founder of the celebrated Pimlico Plumbers. Last year, in search of new beginnings he sold his business for a cool £145m.

Now the man who was once a former business advisor to David Cameron and George Osborne, is a columnist in the Star newspaper and a talking head for broadcast media on business and political affairs.

Since selling his business, Charlie has invested in and become the chairman of Great British Radio - a radio station without any (bad) news bulletins designed to cheer up the nation with its roster of comedy, music and celebrity interviews. He has further expanded his property portfolio and invested in the musical career of his fiancée - the singer songwriter RaRa, who is about to release her debut album.

    Key Takeaways

For Charlie, there is a good side and down side about making lots of money. Good, you can do what you want. The downside side, you can lose a lot friends and family.

It’s important to get apprenticeship at a very young age. We all learn from somebody and starting young is the best time to learn.

What helped Charlie transition from being a plumber to a successful business owner, was learning to employ the right people and delegating responsibilities correctly. It’s not easy to delegate, but it’s all part of making money and growing your business.

Another great tip Charlie shared is incentivise people that work for you. They’ll feel valued. They will value you, what they do, their clients, and the service that they're getting, which builds up the company reputation, and allows that whole circle to continue.

Money doesn't make make you. It only changes you if you allow it to change you.

It’s important to seek the evidence of what you want to achieve.

Opportunities are out there. You can’t expect to earn great money if you’re not putting yourself out there. Be visible and work hard, it’s one of the ingredients of being successful.

  • #66 Marvin Reid – What’s Your Money Story?

In this 6th in the celebratory mini-series of the podcast, my guest for this episode is Marvin Reid.

Marvin Reid, is an international Business Coach, Speaker, trainer, and consultant to blue-chip companies. After a long history working with enterprise organisations, he now has a passion for supporting SMEs. Marvin is an advisor for several start-ups and a Mentor for the NatWest Business Accelerator programme.

With over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, branding and social media, Marvin has successfully grown businesses to more than 7 figures and has been involved in winning over £500 million pounds worth of business.

Via his company Volume 2, his commitment to business owners worldwide and his ‘no entrepreneur left behind policy’, has helped thousands of entrepreneurs across many sectors transform their businesses to achieve their desired vision and, in many cases, go beyond it.

    Key Takeaways

When you’re younger you think that money is limited. But then as you get older, as you do more in business, you realise that there's there's money everywhere. It's just a case of building out a strategy to sort and make sure it finds its way to you.

For Marvin wealth means his family, connections, and relationships. Money is important, sure, but it’s not the be all and end all.

Money should be the enabler of all the dreams that you have in terms of creating a life that you are proud of and the life that you have no regrets. And it should be about focusing on the legacy that you leave behind, not in terms of a financial legacy, but more people remembering the things that you did, and the way you made them feel.

A lot of people drift along through life. But to be successful, you have to have a plan. And have a complete self awareness and be extremely aware of everything’s going on. You make one choice, left or right. Create a roadmap and clarify your vision.

You can have the best strategy in the world, or the best strategist present you with how to have the most successful business. But if you don't have the mindset to believe you can deliver on that strategy, the outcome will be what the outcome was meant to be, then you're never ever going to have that success.

You don't get confident because you have the right relationship with money, you get the right relationship with money, because you have self confidence.

Success is never going to be a linear one and never going to be an easy one. But if you keep plowing and keep plugging away at it, then you are going to get to where you are to where you want to in this journey of life.

  • #65 Damian Schechter – What’s Your Money Story?

In this 5th in the celebratory mini-series of the podcast, my guest for this episode is Damian Schechter.

Damian is the owner and founder of RNDR Coaching Systems. A brand that has been built on, and is synonymous with helping busy individuals get into the best mental and physical shape of their lives.

Damian’s core approach to working with clients is to develop a great amount of trust, integrity and accountability throughout the journey together, whilst delivering a high level of education to clients that enable them to walk away with all the knowledge needed to continue achieving results for a lifetime.

    Key Takeaways

There’s nothing wrong and embarrassing about working on yourself and raising your hand up and actually asking for the right help when it comes to educating yourself about money. It’s essential to get right advice and guidance and seek mentorship as to equip yourself with the tools you do not have.

Outreach is important to business owners. Get the right people to be on board with you. Knowing what you can and cannot do and reach out, connect and relate to those who can support you in particular areas are great catalysts to scale and grow your business.

Learn to delegate and hand responsibilities over to the right people. By doing so allows you to focus more time, energy and effort in driving the business forward.

Our relationship with money is actually nothing to do with the money, but our relationship with ourselves. Once we have a greater awareness of the value that we are bringing, and our conversation about money reflects of that value, everything else becomes easy.

Start saving young and manage the burn out. Because after 8, 9, 10 years of doing something and not realizing that you have this issue, it really catches up with you. And it kills your motivation.

Interact and surround yourself with successful people. People you aspire and those who have what you aspire.

  • #64 Paul Sayer – What’s Your Money Story?

Welcome to the 4th episode in this special week long celebration of 12 months of the Let’s Talk Money and more podcast and the addition of male guests to the line up.

Today’s special guest is Paul Sayer a seasoned charity event organiser and fundraising consultant who has worked with a wide range of charities from large nationals to smaller local organisations for about 30 years.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018 but was fortunate enough to find and receive a minimally invasive treatment called focal therapy using just ultrasound to target and destroy just the cancerous cells, leaving surrounding tissue unharmed. The treatment preserved his lifestyle functionality.

Having benefited from focal therapy and so being very aware of the better lifestyle outcome and minimal recovery times, Paul decided to create a charity to fight for wider access and awareness of these treatment options, so Prost8 UK was born in early 2019 . Today Prost8 is striving to raise funds to buy, donate and deploy focal therapy suites into strategic NHS hospitals across the UK as clinicians are struggling to obtain funding to roll this out.

But it should not be the job of a charity to do the work of the Dept of Health or the NHS so Paul is launching a high profile campaign to pressure government organisations to step up and do the right thing for thousands of men with low to intermediate grade prostate cancer.

    Key Takeaways

Focal therapy treatment allows the surgeon to target just the tumor or the cancer cells with ultrasound leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.

A charity has to be treated very much like a business, but you don't have the same control over sales, income revenue and such and very much focused on the well being of others.

People have more of an interest in giving money to a charity when they've been touched in some way themselves or know someone has been touched or a disaster happened somewhere in the world that particularly grabs their interest.

In terms of researching and trying to find those sources of information, take control. But do it in a sensible way. Don't just read everything that comes up on the internet.

Be your own health advocate. Take responsibility of your own health, don’t wait for others to do it for you.

  • #63 Ashley Shipman – What’s Your Money Story?

Welcome to the latest episode, in this week long celebration of the Let’s Talk Money and more podcast. It is 1 year old this week and part of the celebration is the addition of male guests to the lineup. I can’t wait to share today’s guest with you, another great man. Ashley Shipman is a Startup investor & business development advisor. Also, a Non-Exec and board for private equity funds and companies.

With over 12 years of experience, Ashley has successfully grown businesses to 6, 7 & 8 figures. His dynamic, trusted & committed service has helped thousands of entrepreneurs across many sectors transform their businesses to their desired outcomes and often exceed them. Ashley gets fast results by identifying the critical steps needed to increase profit by unlocking & implementing growth opportunities to ensure no business is left on the table.

I met Ashley on Clubhouse, where He is the Co-Creator of a rapidly growing entrepreneurial network of over 50,000 members, "The Winners Club,". He is a live Audio Host of 'Breakfast With Winners' where Ashley interviews live & shares the speaker stage with billionaires, A-list celebrities, and elite-level performers from all over the World.

Ashley's huge, accessible, diverse network enables him to embed a real collaborative approach. He will create, grow and accelerate your business with you to ensure you have all the tools for continued growth.

    Key Takeaways

Consistency is key and persistence will always win in the end.

‘If you can't get a seat at a table serve water’, be with the right people.

If an opportunity presents itself, start moving and building momentum in a direction it will take you, and do everything you can and trust the process.

In the world of life and business, you're going to be consistently told no. Remind your self that you’re one step closer. If something doesn't happen, or a door closes and a route doesn't pan out know that something better is coming.

Turn your pain into fuel and it will literally like be a rocket.

Train your brain to respond and react pro actively when it’s being challenged. Ask yourself like, “What is my body telling me? Why am I feeling this way?” And once you’ve educated yourself on that, you’d know what to do when situations as such come again.

Don’t mask the adversity. Always think that the quicker you can find a solution, and the lesson with any problem you face, the happier you'll be in life.

  • #62 Ollie Carson – What’s Your Money Story?

Welcome to another celebratory episode of The Let’s Talk Money and more podcast. I am celebrating a whole 12 months of the podcast and also the fact we are now adding male guests to the lineup – starting with a week long series of male guests.

All week, I will be sharing with you, 7 great men in my network and today is no exception. Ollie Carson is father to 3 beautiful children, a partner and founder/head coach of Supercharged Fitpro. Supercharged Fitpro helps busy, frustrated personal trainers build thriving online businesses so they have more impact, income and freedom.

I have had the pleasure of working with a number of Ollie’s clients and they really are not only Supercharged, but a super group of people too.

    Key Takeaways

It’s all about perspective. Your money story is your super power. Having experience both positively and negatively puts you in a position to empathise with people and level with them. which enables you to have a deeper connection and relationship.

Having an open dialogue starting at a young age about money whether it’s as simple as saving, a basic understanding, or its value, would immensely help build the foundation you can rely on as an adult.

Learn to live with it within your means. Learn to understand the intricacies of managing your money and learn to reinvest in such a way that builds your wealth over time.

There isn't a handbook that an A-Z of how to run a business successfully. It’s not one and done. Mistakes are made from day one. And these mistakes allow us to recognise and assess our relationship with money, our money mindset and how to grown and learn from it.

It's really important to understand what is triggering you, and why are you triggered. Because it's more likely to be a reflection of something else that is going on for you and relating to your self worth and self value.
