  • Ep. 27 | Is "The Book of Mormon--a Book of God"? (Part 2)

Mormonism, with its largest expression in the LDS Church, claims that the Book of Mormon is a book inspired by God; sometimes even more inspired than the Bible. Is this true? Is the Book of Mormon actual Christian Scripture? In this video, I look at an article put out by the Church's website and take it apart.

    The article: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2011/10/the-book-of-mormon-a-book-from-god?lang=eng&fbclid=IwAR3iM6jjsy8G65t3u2dMS_QH6fXrBPojm_jjLyOX8kLbbfe0db4jyrBacC4

  • Ep. 25 | Can we only know Truth by approximation?

I am talking with my friend, Vidal Freire. We discuss, most exactly, Approximated Truth Claims. Vidal posits that we cannot really know reality absolutely, and therefore all our knowledge about reality (and about truth) is approximate. This then means that language is merely a broken human tool, science is not definite, and that we are constantly plagued by our own subjectivity. This makes Vidal a very definite and hard Skeptic.

I have many, many points of contention and disagreement with this view (in fact, it is almost the anthesis of my thinking); however, I do not attempt to hash them out here, for I was primarily concerned with understanding Vildal's philosophy. Vidal and I intend to have another conversation in the future about God, Existentialism (how I define it), and more about honest and atheistic skepticism.

Here is the link to Vidal's diagram: https://www.coltonkirby.com/post/vidal-freire-s-approximated-truth-claims-diagram

  • Ep. 24 | Does Free Will Exist?

My response to the popular claims that Free Will doesn't exist. If the atheists are right about God, then they are right here.

  • Ep. 23 | Notes from "Fantine" in Victor Hugo's Les Misérables

In 1861, French intellectual giant Victor Hugo released his book Les Misérables. I have lately started reading it. It is divided into five major parts; I discuss "Fantine," the first of these parts, in this video. This video is basically my notes on Fantine. This is mostly to help me sort out my thoughts on it and I hope it may be helpful to others as well.

  • Ep. 21 | Where We're Going (With the Show)

In this episode, I talk about the changes I'm making to the Podcast and YouTube moving forward. I hope this brings some clarity to what I'm trying to do. I've learned a lot about the Podcast and YouTube culture and general, so now I want to take that and adjust accordingly.
