Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

A couple of weeks back I took my darling Linda the camper van on another rain-sodden jaunt. This time in the direction of Cardiff, where I was to stay a couple of nights with my good pal Conor, before using 'Search For Sites' again to find somewhere to get my head down on the way back. First I headed to Porthcawl for a little admin errand that brought a very sweet surprise with it. At the end of the episode I am poised to go and visit Alice Lowe to record the episode that will follow this one. It wasn't my best stopover choice but making underwhelming choices is all part of the journey and always gives something for you lot to laugh at me about. In this case, a very disappointing carvery failure.

Am looking forward to the nights getting lighter and will soon be putting more Vanventures in the diary so please feel free to suggest stop-offs and places for me and Linda to visit. You might even end up on the podcast.

Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

Hey you lovelies,

Am wearing my Music Dad hat this week to introduce you to Mookie, a fabulously confident young lady from the Brighton burgeoning music scene who is about to release her third single. Mookie is one of several new acts I regularly see playing around town who are very accomplished even though they are still babies (to me) coming through the music college system. It's a brilliant, inspiring little community, and it makes it a lot easier putting live music nights on when there are so many quality local acts out there earning their performing stripes who want to come and play and who also indulge my old ass when I am singing on the same bill.

We had a lovely chat here where I live vicariously by asking all about what it's like going to Waterbear college to learn to be an independent artist.

I think you can hear the envy dripping off me. Mookie also does three gorgeous acoustic tunes at the end so stay tuned.

Her single 'Murmuring' is out on 21st February 2025, with a fancy video! And she has a fab pre-release gig at The Folklore Rooms in Brighton on Monday 17th.

Here is the third part of my trip to Manchester and back in Linda the Camper Van. It's a Freezing January Monday late aftertnoon on the M1 and I am very tempted to stay in a fancy BnB and do some laptoppin'. But then I remember what I am supposed to be doing. I'm supposed to be using my van to break up journeys. I'm supposed to be being more adventurous. And so I end up making friends with some pigs in the dark. This yanks my mind open and makes me connect with the true value of planless, aimless, travelling....just to see where it leads to....

I can only hope you enjoy the ramblings of a middle aged man under the moonlight in an empty car park

Would I maintain my rogueish vanlife legend status there or go and have a shower in a Premier Inn and then go and kip at my mums because she thinks I've gone weird. Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

This episode marks the start of my concerted effort to use Linda the camper van in a more adventurous way when I am bobbing around the country. I thought I wouldn't be feeling the call of the road at least til the Daffodils are up but after feeling poorly and getting cabin fever, I thought I'd brave a pub car park stopover to break up my recent trip home to Manchester. Being mid January it was bloody freezing and Linda does not have heating yet, but I wanted to experience a winter over-nighter to see whether it was bearable.

This particular trip lasted a few days and I have squeezed a couple more episodes of navel gazing and following my nose out of it. I hope you enjoy my ramblings -

Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.

This episode features meself and Flavour Fred, my wild food pal and collaborater from our forthcoming project The Wild Lunch Podcast, going for a New Year walk up at Devils Dike above Hove. It was a snowy very crisp day and the sloshy snowy paths made it quite an aggy little trek. But we pressed on because, as usual, Fred had a little mission for us to find 'Tree Mallow' so that he could serve me Wild Dolmades at the end of the journey. Yes, that's right, cold meze, in the snow. Lovely stuff.

There is about to be much more of this sort of thing when we launch The Wild Lunch Podcast for real in the next few weeks. We are both very excited about it. Especially as we plan our first dining/podcast/music experience in a lovely venue in Brighton.

It will be our attempt to capture a live/event podcast version of The Wild Lunch experience, in which Fred will be serving up some of his genius Wild Ingredient recipes, amidst banter and some gentle live music courtesy of Stupid Hearts Club (Oh, that's me isn't it?). Cannot wait to get it going.

This week I invited my newish pal Rob Dunkley, musician and long term Patron of SHC who lives quite near me, round for a cuzzer and a cuddle.

He's good value Rob and I think we will do some more strummy stuff together. I am very keen to see his band Rodge as soon as they are ready.

Here we are talking our way through the winter blues, the importance of creativity and setting a few lickle targets to keep you going.

Hello sods

Like many of us, I have felt totally rinsed by this year as it winds down, even though it has been largely brilliant for me. The creeping winter and some personal shit has really done a number on me this last few weeks and I have not been at all productive. That's what this episode is about in a way, trying to get my head round a bit of a dip in mood and find my way back to the energy that I need to make 2025 a belter.

I quite like this idea of kind of taking you guys with me when I'm podding so that's what I've played with here. I have a little sulk in Linda the van, then pep myself up round Flavour Freds house, and end up twatted in a pub. So let me know how you feel about being in my pocket with me as I gad about.

The year ahead will have lots of travel and going places in it, I think it's a nice new layer on things. Anyway, I shall try and hit the ground running and deliver you lot a nice chunk of stuff in the next few weeks.

Wow wow wow. What a lovely episode to be able to post. Last week, my friend Delphine and I put on the first official (ticketed) Sanctuary Sessions music event at The Sherriff Centre in West Hampstead, London and boy was it special. Todays ep starts with a bit of set-up, then you will all come with me in Linda the Van, on the way to the gig. Then I've included some highlights from the gig in the pod, and then a nice chat with Michael Brindley and his pianist Matt on the way home (everyone wanted a lift in Linda).
