Hebrews 10:19-25: God calls us to draw near to him, hold fast to his promises, and encourage one another to keep going in the faith.

In Galatians 5, Paul examines the value of Jewish identity and contrasts the flesh and the Spirit.

Luke 7:18-29: John the Baptist has honest doubt.  The very one who proclaimed Jesus as the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world” now wonders if Jesus really is the great rescuer, the Messiah.  Perhaps suffering in our own lives – like John in Herod’s dungeon – brings our doubt to the surface.

John 1:35-51: Our mission, like John the Baptist’s, is to point people to Jesus.  In our story, both Andrew and Philip also lead people to Jesus. Who will you bring to Jesus?

John 13:1–17, 31–35: Jesus and Paul make love the defining characteristic of his people, shown in self-giving and forgiveness.

Galatians 3 addresses Paul’s surprise that the churches in the region had abandoned the gospel of the apostles for a so-called gospel that included Jewish traditions and observances. Paul takes them to task, pointing to the presence of the Holy Spirit and God’s plan all along to include the Gentiles .

Philippians 1:27-30: Having founded the church at Philippi, Paul writes a letter to his favorite congregation. In the midst of his message, he implores them, above all else, to live a life worthy of the gospel. In other words, Paul tells them how they ought to behave “when no one else is looking.” The gospel story itself compels us to live godly lives, worthy of the Jesus story in which our Savior gives His best for us.

1 Cor. 12:12-27: God has deliberately formed the church so that none of us possesses everything we need by ourselves. We’re taught to care, serve, and share gifts.
