First Christian Church of Louisville Podcast

We started the season of Advent this Sunday with our series called Generation to Generation with poetry, art and devotions from Sanctified Art. We reflected and celebrated the genealogy of Jesus, finding hope in those who came before us, who passed on God's love and liberation and justice generation after generation. We have inherited a story that lasts, and there is room enough for our story! Our stories of faith and doubt, success and failure, joy and sadness give hope and are what we pass on to the next generation.

This week we finished up our stewardship series on how we are opening doors with our generosity! We talked about your generosity helps us dream about the future of this church. The way we will continue to be stretched and strengthened by God to share the gospel. We can only do this if every single person finds their way to sharing their gifts with us this year. As we are on the verge of a new church year starting in Advent, you are invited to fill out a pledge card (if you haven't already) to plan how you want to open doors to ministry here at FCC Louisville!

This week we celebrated the ways our outreach sends us out to many doorsteps around our city and around the world. Paul, reminded us with his travels, it is worth the risk and absolutely necessary to meet people where they are, let them know they are invited to our crowded table, and also let them invite us to their tables too. In order to do this, we must share our time, talents and tithes to make our outreach, mission trips, and Wholeness Grants possible.

This Sunday we kicked off our new stewardship season, exploring how we open doors to ministry through our generosity. We celebrated the saints of our past, especially the gifts and talents of Fay Watson. We give thanks to those who gave in the past and who inspire us to join in the joy of generosity too!

This Sunday, we finalized our Imagining A World with More series with a message from Rev. Dr. Caitlin Simpson. In this message, Rev. Simpson asks us to imagine a world with more justice-seeking Christians and to explore ways to engage in justice and activism in today's world as we each work to break every yoke of oppression and injustice. Check out Disciple Home Mission (mentioned in the sermon) at the link below!

This Sunday we heard some of the most beautiful words from scripture found in Psalm 19, how creation itself, speaks of God's glory and majesty. We learned about how the Green Chalice, a ministry of the General Church, has also spend the last two decades connecting Disciples to God's creation by creating and protecting the beauty of the earth. We are invited to get outside this week to celebrate and appreciate God's gifts of nature.

This week we celebrated World Communion Sunday with many denominations around the world. We imagined a world with more Hope and heard how Global Ministries brings hope to people all over the planet. Hope is the thing with feathers as Emily Dickinson reminded us, and ours is in Jesus who is faithful.

In week two of our series Imagining a World with More... we talked about the hidden life and language of trees and how they can help us imagine a world with more community. We learned when we build a community that values collaboration, connectivity, deep listening and diversity it starts to look like a God shaped community. We need deep roots that care about all the other trees to create a healthy, thriving forest. Our church, and our denomination, especially Disciples Home Mission helps nourish and resource us to create new life on behalf of Jesus.

Last Sunday we kicked off a new sermon series "Imagine a World with More" with the theme of compassion. In our passage Jesus reminds us the only guideline for identifying sheep vs. goats, was whether they were compassionate. We are imagining more ways and new ways for FCC Louisville to be compassionate, specifically towards God's creation. The message encourages you to think where do YOU want to see more compassion in the world?
