This Sunday we talked about how Jesus wants to offer freedom to those who are bound up. He gave it miraculously to a woman bent over for eighteen years and tried to offer it to the synagogue leader who was bound up by a need to cling to his privileges and power by keeping things the same. Where do you need Jesus to offer you freedom, what are you clinging to that might be keeping you bound up?

This Sunday we welcomed Rev. Art Ritter aka Maren's dad to share a good word with us from Luke's gospel. He taught us about the ways following Jesus does ask us to choose a particular path, it may mean we act and think differently, even from those closest to us. Following Jesus is a choice and a challenge, one that doesn't always make our lives easier, but does make the world closer to God's kingdom.

Last Sunday we finished our sermon series Holistic Faith, by hearing through a worship and wonder story from our children's ministry, how the church tells time through a liturgical calendar. We celebrated the gift of moving through the church seasons to help us grow hearts for worship and a deep sense of awe.

Last Sunday we learned about the third part of a Holistic Faith or whole-hearted faith. We learned how STUDY can help us grow and keep curious hearts. Hearts that are curious and full of wonder about God and people. Curiosity helps us practice vulnerability, and keeps us willing to change and learn. Certainty closes doors, while curiosity keeps them open.

We continued our series on Holistic Faith, looking at how serving and service are essential. We learned from the bold faith of James and John, that we are capable of serving in risky ways that have the power to transform us into servants of God.

Last Sunday we started our sermon series on Holistic Faith where we explore four fundamental practices that help lead to a balanced or whole-hearted faith. In the story of Mary and Martha, we discovered the deep value of fellowship, both offering it and receiving it. We talked about about how it was one of the ways we offer and experience Jesus among us.

Last week we learned about our freedom in Christ, grants us the freedom to live a life in the spirit. That spirit produces beautiful fruit and comes from us serving one another in love. My freedom is now linked to everyone else's freedom through Jesus.

This week, in our series Ancient Practices for Anxious Times, we harnessed the power of the PAUSE, as we learned about the rhythm of prayer for many monks and nuns. Patty Rankin joined me for a conversation on how we can choose to let prayer interrupt our days, helping us to be more reflective than reactive people.
