  • Featured interview: Morgan Stanley CIO Lisa Shalett

May proved to be a challenging month for investors. The NASDAQ was the big US winner last month, rallying almost 6%. That's in stark contrast to the DJIA, which was off more than 3%. It's one of the biggest disparities in US stock market performance in years. Joining Julia to discuss what might happen next is Lisa Shalett, Chief Investment Officer of Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley.

  • Featured interview: Microsoft Vice Chairman Brad Smith

We're still in the very early stages of both understanding and harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. But it's coming, and the pace of change is already vast. And along with it the cries for restraint are growing ever more insistent. Just in the past two months, industry voices have gone from saying we need a six-month pause to reevaluate, to yesterday's warning that AI could be the death of us. Among those most alarmed are some of those with the most to gain financially. And one of the key beneficiaries, Microsoft, is also one of the strongest voices pushing for smart and swift regulation to ensure we get this right. Joining Julia to discuss is Microsoft Vice Chairman Brad Smith.

  • Feature interview: Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang

Dozens of AI industry leaders, policymakers and academics are warning there's a risk that the use of artificial intelligence could lead to the annihilation of humanity. The statement says extinction by AI should be considered a top global threat and treated just as seriously as risks from pandemics and nuclear war. It's worth noting that today's cutting-edge chatbots don't think for themselves. They produce outputs based on data they've been trained on. And that's where the company Scale AI says it offers solutions by providing software that helps define and label the datasets used in this process. Joining Julia to discuss is Scale AI founder/CEO Alexandr Wang.

  • Featured interview: Morningstar VP Michael Heydt

The White House and senior Republicans may have reached an "agreement in principle" to raise the debt ceiling, but now lawmakers must vote on it. The US government has never defaulted on its debt, but that didn't stop rating agencies including Morningstar from placing the country's AAA credit rating under review. Joining Julia to discuss is Morningstar Senior Vice President of Sovereign Global Ratings Michael Heydt.

Also on today's show: Selva Demiralp, Professor of Economics at Koç University in Istanbul.

  • Featured interview: Zephalto founder Vincent Farret d'Astiès

French startup Zephalto is offering flights to the edge of space in a pressurized capsule attached to a helium balloon. The firm says the craft will take off from a French spaceport and ascend for around 90 minutes, reaching an altitude of 25 kilometers (82,000 feet). Not surprisingly, given this is a French company, one of the main attractions of the trip is feasting on food prepared by Michelin-star chefs. Joining Julia to discuss is Zephalto founder Vincent Farret d'Astiès.

Also on today's show: Daniel Ives, Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst at Wedbush Securities; Greg Valliere, Chief US Policy Strategist at AGF.

  • Featured interview: IEA Exec. Dir. Fatih Birol

According to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global investment in clean energy is on course to rise to $1.7 trillion this year. In fact, investment in solar power is set to exceed oil for the first time ever. But there's still major concern about the unevenness of that growth. The IEA points out that more than 90% of that increase comes from advanced economies and China. Joining Julia to discuss is IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol.

Also on today's show: World Bank President David Malpass, who's stepping down on June 30 after serving more than four years.

  • Featured interview: Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire

The US Congress has very little time left to avoid a default. Whether that happens or not, even flirting with the prospect has big consequences for investors in US assets like US government bonds, which are supposed to be the safest assets to own. Imagine you provide a product whose value is tied to the US dollar and investors trust that you have exactly the same amount of cash or bonds, for example, to back it up. In very simple terms, that is how a stablecoin works. Circle is a financial service company that issues one of the world's largest, known as a USDC. Stablecoins facilitate trades in cryptocurrencies, but they're also used to lend, borrow and send payments around the world with lower transaction costs. Joining Julia to discuss is Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire.

  • Featured interview: Adobe CSO Scott Belsky

While much of the recent talk about artificial intelligence has focused on how this powerful technology can be abused, there can be huge creative benefits as well. The software giant Adobe is making it easier than ever before to enhance images with lifelike effects. Joining Julia to discuss is Scott Belsky, chief strategy officer and executive VP of design and emerging products at Adobe.

Also on today's show: Author Ashley Vance discusses his new book, When the Heavens Went on Sale (The Misfits and Geniuses Racing to put Space Within Reach).

  • Featured interview: IBM CEO Arvind Krishna

From solving climate change to improving electric vehicle battery technology, tackling some of the world's most challenging problems remains beyond the reach of even the world's most powerful supercomputers. Hoping to change that, IBM just announced a 10-year, $100 million dollar initiative to develop a quantum supercomputer. For more on this, Julia spoke exclusively with IBM CEO Arvind Krishna.

Also on today's show: Nikos Vettas, general director of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research.

  • Featured interview: Oxfam's Amitabh Behar

According to the global charity Oxfam International, G7 nations owe $13 trillion dollars to developing countries in aid that was promised but never delivered, as well as funding for climate action. Oxfam Interim Executive Director Amitabh Behar says, "It's time to call the G7's hypocrisy for what it is: an attempt to dodge responsibility and maintain the neo-colonial status quo." He joins Julia to discuss.

Also on today's show: Raj Ramanand, CEO of Signifyd, an end-to-end fraud protection company.
