  • New evidence of genocide in Ukraine

Satellite images of Mariupol appear to show rows of mass graves. Russian soldiers are accused of burying the bodies of countless civilians including women and children. Mariupol's mayor is calling it evidence of war crimes. In the east, heavy fighting is reported in Donetsk and Luhansk. Evacuation attempts were interrupted by Russian shelling. Meanwhile, Ukraine's finance minister is in Washington for talks. Later in today's show we discuss what the country needs, who he singles out for their ongoing support, and why Ukraine will never surrender. But first, CNN's Matt Rivers reports from Lviv on the evacuation efforts.

  • An appeal to the world for help

The last Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol, sheltered in a steel plant surrounded by Russian forces, allow another deadline to surrender to expire and remain adamant they will not give in. The commander of Ukrainian forces there sent this message: "This is our statement to the world, and it may be our last statement, and maybe we have a few days or hours left. The enemy's units are ten times larger than ours, and they have supremacy in the air and on the ground, and they have tanks, and we are appealing to the world's leaders to help us." CNN's Matt Rivers begins today's coverage with a live report from Ukraine.

  • Turning point in the war?

In a critical moment in Putin's invasion of Ukraine, the battle for the Donbas region is underway. President Zelensky is vowing to fight on against a large scale Russian ground offensive. We've already seen efforts to break through Ukraine's front lines in three regions in the east. Meanwhile, in Mariupol, Russian forces have given that city's resistance fighters a second deadline to surrender. Today's coverage begins with a live report from CNN's Matt Rivers in Lviv.

  • "No safe places left"

"No safe places left." Those are the words of a Ukrainian official in the eastern city of Luhansk, who says Russia is "shelling everywhere." He accused Russian soldiers of opening fire on people escaping in a car, killing four. And officials in nearby Kreminna say their city has been lost to Russians carrying huge amounts of equipment. Meanwhile, in Mariupol the resistance continues after troops rejected Russian demands to lay down their weapons or be "eliminated." And in Lviv in western Ukraine, which has mostly been spared from violence until now, Russian missile strikes killed seven people and injured 11 others. CNN's Matt Rivers is in Lviv and begins today's coverage.

  • Russian retaliation

Cruise missiles strike a military facility near Kyiv just hours after Russia's prized warship Moskva sinks to the bottom of the Black Sea. The Ukrainians say the vessel was damaged by their anti-ship missiles. Meanwhile, in the east Russian forces continue to build as troops advance toward their main target, the Donbas. CNN's Ben Wedeman begins our reporting from eastern Ukraine.

  • Premier Russian warship out of action

The flagship of the Russian Black Sea fleet was damaged and its crew evacuated. Russian state media say a fire broke out, but the Ukrainians are taking credit, saying it was targeted by anti-ship missiles. Meanwhile, 800 kilometers north in the Kharkiv region, images released by the Ukrainian government reportedly show a bridge that was blown up as Russian military vehicles were crossing. Ukraine says armored cars and trucks were destroyed in the attack. CNN's Matt Rivers reports on these latest developments from Lviv.

Russia states over 1,000 Ukrainian marines that were defending the besieged port city have now surrendered. However, Ukraine says the remaining troops in the city have managed to combine forces. In a video statement posted Tuesday by a member of the marine unit, they said that they would "hold until the end." CNN's Fred Pleitgen begins today's show with a live report from Ukraine.

  • Putin: Ukraine invasion "noble" and "objectives will be achieved"

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia's so-called special operation was a right step as Russia "had no choice." His comments follow a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. But while Putin continued to allege he wants to help people in Ukraine, overnight there were reports of heavy shelling. The Ukrainian military is now hoping bad weather could slow the progress. CNN's Fred Pleitgen reports on both the devastation and dangers.

  • The battle for east Ukraine begins

Kharkiv and the surrounding areas are under attack. Satellite images show an eight-mile long convoy just outside the Ukrainian city consisting of armored vehicles and trucks with towed artillery and support equipment. And at the helm of this new offensive is a brutal new general, Aleksandr Dvornikov, who became known as the "butcher of Syria" and is notorious for inflicting atrocities on civilians. Meanwhile, in Moscow, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has been meeting with Vladimir Putin following weekend talks with Volodymyr Zelensky. Nehammer is calling for a full investigation of Russian "war crimes." CNN's Nic Robertson begins today's coverage.
