Some students hoping to enter into the Bcom Accounting Honours Degree program at the University of Limpopo say they have not been allowed to register. The students have accused the university of increasing the pass requirement. They claim the university amended the minimum requirement from 55 percent to 60 percent in what they call 'last minute changes'. An Afrikaans school in Vereeniging has won its case in the Pretoria High Court against the Gauteng education department. Hoërskool Overvaal approached the courts to overturn the Gauteng Department of Education's decision to admit 55 English speaking learners to the Afrikaans-medium school. The University of South Africa has warned students against forcing their way onto campus. Earlier chaos broke out at the university's Sunny side campus when prospective students climbed over the fence in order to register before the January 19 deadline. Unisa has made a call to re-open its applications for undergraduate students who have not previously applied for admission to the 2018 academic year. Learner organisation, COSAS in Limpopo says the department of education and institutions of higher learning must find ways of improving infrastructure at the institutions to accommodate new students. COSAS also raised a concern over a stampede that left eight people injured at the Capricorn TVET college in Polokwane.
