In the last few days I've found that I've had a better balanced diet and food intake by making it worse and making some deliberate so-called "unhealthy" choices.
Yes this is basically flexible dieting, or "IIFYM - if it fits your macros", but it's taken me a little while to fully understand and appreciate it.
I have found more balance with my nutrition by having a sugary dessert everyday.
This episode covers the details of the how and the why.

The fitness industry isn't in the best state right now. With gyms closed and people staying away because of the pandemic even when they are open, a large chunk of the industry are on thin ice.
The thing is that there are other issues in the industry that existed even before the pandemic that were wrong and if the industry can address as a whole can address those in the coming weeks and months, we'll all be getting out of lockdowns for good feeling fitter, stronger and happier!
It's not all doom and gloom (it might just feel like it because gyms couldn't cash in on the January rush) and next week I'll also talk about what I see happening in the future which will make fitness easier and more accessible for all, putting the industry in a position of strength again.

Happy 2021 Fitter Body Fallout-ers (I'll work on a name, I promise!).
In today's episode I want to talk about setting goals and and how to structure them. We all tend to set new goals in January of where we want to be in a few weeks, months or years but don't necessarily look at what it takes to get there or how to stay on track.
So that's what I'm covering - my 2021 goals, what I'm going to do to get there and how I'm going to track it.
This can cover fitness, health, or life in more general terms too.

When was the first diet book published? When did calorie counting become a thing? What other weird and wonderful diets have we turned to in the past?
In this week's episode I'm looking at the history of diets, from the first ever diet book and why it was published to the pros and cons of a few of the most popular diets around today.
I go through topics pretty fast and it's a bit of a whistle stop tour to give you an overview of how dieting has evolved over the years so you get the big picture.

I always used to over-indulge in epic fashion on Christmas Day. I would stockpile the food I wanted and then go on an epic feasting rampage and feel sick for days afterwards.
I've taken a different approach this year and instead of keeping my diet "clean" (yes, I still hate that word), I am starting to treat myself early and the results so far have been promising.
Listen to the full episode to find out how lockdown made me adapt my Christmas plans, the changes I made, how my diet ended up getting "worse" and why that actually seems to be better for me.

One of the most common questions I get is how "clean" should your diet be so I explore that in more depth in this episode.
I talk about the pros and cons of nutritionally dense foods, why some "dirty" foods in your diet is actually a good thing and I also get into comparing it all to interior decorating and colour schemes so that's something to look forward to.

Gym intimidation sucks.
You should never feel intimidated from doing something positive for your health.
The thing is a lot of the time, it hits before we've even ever set foot in a gym - in which case, a lot of it is in our heads.
Harassment in gyms DOES actually happen too but gyms should have policies in place for that - and if they don't, do you even want to be a member of that gym in the first place?
In this episode we're talking about the negative thought processes that make us perceive gym intimidation before it has even happened and how to handle it so you can focus on your goals AND what to do if you experience any kind of harassment in a gym.

It's pretty common to wake up in early January one morning and feel bloated, guilty and a bit ashamed about how your nutrition, health and fitness have been for the past few weeks.
Christmas might be one day, but celebrations can be ongoing for several weeks and let's be honest - they will often start all the way back from Halloween.
So how do you approach the festive season so can allow yourself some indulgence, enjoy yourself, make the most of time with friends and family but NOT wake up in January and feel awful about it?
Some indulgence and weight gain is likely - or expected - or if you're in my family, probably mandatory. But you never need to feel bad about it.
That's what I'm covering in today's episode of the Fallout.

Saying "I want to get my body back" is one of the most defeatist ways of saying you want to look after your health and fitness.
Your body has been with you through whatever mental or physical difficulty or challenge you've been battling with.
It hasn't gone anywhere and has supported you and gotten you through every challenge so instead of seeing it as a downgrade you've ended up swapping for, try to focus on giving it some love, nurture and appreciation instead.
I dive into this in more detail in today's short and sweet episode.

Tackling a much more nuanced topic than I normally do.
But this one's important to me.
As someone who has been at both ends of the weight spectrum and has struggled with body image for both my life, I often find myself pulled apart by the clash between fitness/weight loss and body positivity.
As a result I've ended up finding myself in my own little bubble of where I stand on both of these concepts and it's not quite one or the other.
The thing is that self love and body image and fitness are deeply unique and personal to each individual so everyone will have different thoughts and feelings about this.
I'm very open to feedback and thoughts on this - and different points of view so feel free to let me know what you think and your own experiences.
