Is It ALWAYS a Good Idea to Be Yourself? Brendan Fitzgerald talks about when being yourself can hold you back.
Sometimes, the habit of "being yourself" can give you expectations to live up to based on what those around you know about you. While we want to become more, we often want to achieve it by staying true to ourselves, but that can be difficult. Becoming more than what you are by definition means you can't just be yourself in the process.

"Hurricane" Shane Burgos is a UFC featherweight contender out of New York.
In this episode, Brendan Fitzgerald and Shane Burgos discuss Burgos' recent win over Billy Quarantillo and the feeling of getting back to the win column in the UFC. They also discuss Shane's beginnings in martial arts and how he battled scoliosis and back surgery as a teenager to become a UFC fighter when doctors told him he would not be able to train again.
➡️ As Burgos describes, as soon as he saw the UFC on TV through watching The Ultimate Fighter, he was hooked as a fan. He and a friend tried it for themselves at a local gym and he's never had more fun than when training martial arts.
Check out this interview to see how Burgos combined his passion for martial arts with a solid work ethic to become a top competitor in the UFC.
He also talks about dealing with whatever hand you're dealt, figuring out what you want, and going after what you love... things that everyone can take from!

UFC announcer Brendan Fitzgerald 🎙 answers a fan question on trying to get a job in Mixed Martial Arts 🥋 and work for the UFC.
Working in MMA has been a blast, but the only reason I got to the UFC is because I had passion for a job that could contribute to the organization. Often times, a great job is found when you have a set of skills that you love to use and match it with a company or an industry that you're a big fan of. Somebody who loves to practice martial arts but is also into graphic design 👨🏻🎨 could find themselves working for the creative department at the UFC.
Somebody who loves to help people achieve peak performance 🏋🏻♀️ and is a fight fan would love a job working to train UFC athletes. It's not enough to just love a sport, you need to find your place in it.

Many of us are working on establishing new good habits at this time of year. I am no different, and after recently reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, I was inspired to make a quick bonus episode to pass along what I have found to be helpful.
I'm planning to try to put out a mini bonus episode each week with a good story, something I've learned or anything else that might lend itself well for your listening pleasure.
