We start with the sort of household problems that prove nature and plumbing are both actively plotting against us: hornets, yellow jackets, water leaks, and the various methods we use to figure out where the problem is coming from before it becomes a much larger problem. Along the way, we compare pest control, leak detection, and other everyday challenges where the official solution and the solution we actually attempt differ somewhat.
We apply the logic of Dungeons & Dragons to ordinary working life, imagining a role-playing game where instead of becoming mighty warriors and wizards, we get ordinary jobs. This naturally leads us to superheroes, because if somebody has extraordinary powers, sooner or later somebody is going to wonder whether those powers could be used for welding or roofing. We consider superheroes whose abilities are spectacularly useful without being particularly heroic.
We also get into subliminal messaging, advertising, media influence, superstition, and the myths that can shape what people believe.
Today is a short, hopefully helpful bridge between Tuesday's publication on socialism and this Saturday's publication pertaining to a politics for the glory of Christ. David explains what Christians know about socialism that most economists and politicians usually don't. David's thoughts on socialism and Christ are drawn from specific works of John Owen and Herman Bavinck. An audio of the material used from Bavinck is at senatorfowler94.substack.com.
J.D. Greear recently published “Why I’m Not a Christian Nationalist,” arguing for a particular understanding of religious liberty, government, and the relationship between Christianity and the American nation. On this episode of The Magistrate, Josh Howard is joined by George Sayour to respond.
Is civil government actually capable of moral neutrality?
Should nations recognize the Lordship of Christ?
And how should Christians distinguish religious liberty from the idea that government can operate without reference to an ultimate standard of justice?
Josh and George interact with Greear’s arguments while drawing from historic Protestant political theology, Romans 13, the Ten Commandments, the Great Commission, and the Lordship of Christ.
They also address Andrew Walker’s recent contribution to the discussion and consider how Christians can reject both political idolatry and political retreat.

On this week’s episode of the Prison Pulpit, I begin by giving a little update from our recent China conferences, as well as a look forward to my next trip to India. Then we dive into a moving testimony from Central Asia, where a missionary and his team were attacked with a grenade and nearly killed. His thoughts on this experience of suffering will help us to better pray for others who find themselves in similarly dire circumstances. Finally, a short Pray for China section finishes out today’s podcast!
Why the Prison Pulpit?
The goal is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches:
“Remember those who are in bonds, as bound with them”

This week Greg sat down with William Fullington. Will is the owner of Reformed Finance. They discussed biblical stewardship, the biblical family economy, and the evils of fiat currency, fractional banking, and the Federal Reserve and how a Christian should combat those evils. Enjoy!

What if Christians have learned to expect defeat when Scripture teaches us to expect the victory of Christ’s kingdom?
“The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” — Habakkuk 2:14 In this episode of the Based Boomer Podcast, Mike DeVirgilio reflects on Iain Murray’s The Puritan Hope and the historic Christian confidence in the advance of the gospel. From the Puritans and the Great Awakenings to the rise of pietism, dispensational pessimism, and modern evangelical retreat, Mike examines how Christians came to expect less from the Great Commission—and why that needs to change.
Looking at Habakkuk 2:14, the kingdom of God, and Christ’s command to disciple the nations, Mike argues that Christians should reject an escapist view of the faith and recover confidence that Christ is reigning now, His gospel is powerful, and His purposes in history will not fail.
The Christian life is not about waiting for the gospel to lose. It is about living by faith rather than sight, building faithfully for generations to come, and trusting the promises of God.
Christ is King. His kingdom is advancing. The gospel wins.
In today's limited episode, David uses a fundraising letter from a national Christian public policy and political advocacy organization to help us consider whether its proposed work toward stopping the rise of socialism will be fruitful or unfruitful.
