Join us for our Mid-week Fix, as Idaho Representative Heather Scott discusses her proposed bill to end abortion in Idaho. The state of Idaho already has legislation in Idaho that protects life at conception, but when Roe v. Wade passed in 1973, Idaho added an exception to Idaho law that allows for killing the pre-born in the case of abortions. So Idaho caved on states rights to the federal government in 1973. In 2014 Idaho enacted law that protected gun rights from federal intervention, which is why Heather’s bill is connecting guns to babies. If Idaho claims sovereignty for gun rights, why not for pre-born rights?
While we are on the topic of ending abortion, there are many camps on the pro-life side trying stake a claim in this movement. We are happy to work together with folks from various groups, but we do want to point out that some of our brothers, particularly in the AHA (Abolish Human Abortion) movement, have not been careful with their rhetoric and arguments at times. We are Reformational Abolitionists, meaning that we are working for the end of abortion through the means that God has promised to bless. The center of this is the preaching of the gospel, proclaiming the forgiveness of sins, and discipleship that leads to changed hearts and lives, but all of this means recovering the centrality of the church in God’s renewal of this world.
Judgement begins in the house of God, and if abortion is going to end in Idaho (or anywhere else), repentance begins in the church. We are very grateful for legislation like Heather’s and the strategy of tying it to the gun rights issues in Idaho, but as we said on the show, God will not act unless we repent of our sins and follow the whole counsel of God. We encourage you to support movements that are working through the church and keeping the gospel central, support movements full of the fruit of the Spirit — perhaps especially kindness and patience, and do this while supporting godly legislation and civil magistrates who are doing their best to honor God in their calling and bring an end to the bloodshed.
In the coming months we will be adding more shows to the Fight Laugh Feast Network, a website for the network, and hopefully an app (pray for that specifically).
