“Hi guys. Since I started listening to your inspirational podcast each week, I’m on a roll producing lots of digital products. I’ll soon have a 10-page ebook and a five-module online course to offer my audience; however, I still need to price them. How do you determine the value of your digital products, online course, and consulting services? Thanks so much for all you guys do.”

All right, Liz. We get a lot of questions about pricing so this is a very common topic. It’s going to be an awesome discussion for us today. I’m actually going to turn the first part of this over to Jocelyn because Jocelyn actually got to meet Liz the other day in person.

SHANE: It sounds like drugs, what are we talking about here on this show?

JOCELYN: No, it’s really not. It has essential oils in it and it was for allergies, seasonal allergies that type of thing because I have issues with that a lot. That was really cool and I really appreciated that. All right, Liz, let’s jump into your question about pricing. You have a lot of different products here it looks like and it is definitely difficult to figure out prices for your products sometimes especially when you have such different things to look at. When you’re thinking about pricing, it’s important to remember that you don’t want to price your products too low.

That is a common mistake that a lot of people make starting out. I made it myself and you don’t want to do that. Make sure that you are putting appropriate value on the things that you’re selling. Some ways that you can do this are by looking at competition, seeing what other people are doing. Remember, you’re not trying to low ball your competition. We actually did a podcast recently and we will link to that in the show notes about pricing and how to price your products.

As far as your courses go and your consulting service, again, just look around out there and see what other people are offering. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in your industry. Just get a good idea of what other products and services are worth. If you’re just starting out especially on the consulting and online courses, you might want to start a little bit lower. What’s going on, guys?  Welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast.  It is great as always to be back with you again this week.  We’re going to talk about a topic today that gave us fits in the beginning of our online business and that was creating a sales page.

You worked so hard when you create a digital product.  You put a lot of effort into it and now you’re ready to create this page where the product is kind of going to live, and there is so much information out there about what to include in the sales page, what makes a sales page convert and make money for you online.

There is just so much out there that it becomes really overwhelming and confusing on how to actually create the sales page for your digital product, and it really caused problems for us when we first started out.  We would spend hours and days, sometimes even weeks creating a single sales page and we wanted to share with you today all of those things that we learned how to create sales pages.  We can now create a sales page usually in a couple of hours.  We can roll in, do it, get it done, and have our product to market as fast as possible, but it took a long time for us to figure out and we want to help you guys get past the learning curve a little bit today.

Last week, we showed you how to put together a basic webinar, how to get it going, and kind of some tips on how to actually run the thing. But the problem is, a webinar is kind of useless if nobody comes to it.  Today, I’m bringing on a very good friend of mine.  His name is Joe Daniel and he actually makes a lot of money off of webinars and he works in the football coaching space.  He sells playbooks and things like that for football coaches and webinars are a key component of his strategy.  I thought he would be a great person to bring on today and let us know how to get more people to our webinars.  Without further ado, Joe Daniel, welcome to the program, man.

JOE: Thanks Shane.  I appreciate it.  It’s great to be on here with you guys.

JOCELYN: Yes, it’s really good to have you.  I’m looking forward to learning more to about webinars myself because we have just started using them and I think there’s a lot more we can do with them.  I’m looking forward to the tips that we’re going to talk about with you today.

SHANE: All right, Joe, before we get started here.  Tell us a little bit about your online business, how long have you been in the game and specifically, what have webinars done for your business.

JOE: Well, I’m in the football coaching space and I started in 2009.  I was a history teacher at that time and a high school football coach.  I wanted to go coach in college and, Shane, you know, the college football coaches, most of them don’t make any money.  I have gotten used to that paycheck so I wanted to do a little online business.  That’s how I got started and basically just had a series of failed business trying to make money.  All what I wanted to do was make money and all those failed.

In the meantime, I did little side projects.  I started writing about football coaching, which I didn’t think it would make any money off of, and that became the business.  In 2009, it was over a long period of time.  I just kept writing and writing and writing, but even throughout that whole 2009-2010 into 2011, I was still just writing ideas that I got from other coaches.  I had a podcast called The Football Coaching Podcast that I was interviewing other coaches sta...

JOCELYN: Thanks for joining us for another mini Q&A podcast. Today’s question is from John Sheryl and he says:

"I’m using AWeber for my email list and just launched it about 10 days ago. I have 171 confirmed subscribers so far ,but in checking my subscriber list, I have over 100 additional people who have not confirmed their email. I’m assuming it is in their spam folder or maybe they missed the confirmation email. Do you have any suggestions on how should I approach this? Can I contact them directly? I hate to miss that many people who have signed up for my list."

SHANE: What you’re asking is can you contact people who have not done the double opt-in? What AWeber does is, it collects emails for you on your website and then they can deliver them a lead magnet  or something else that you use to "bribe" them for an email address. What happens is, when they give you their email address, AWeber sends them a message which says "Click this link to confirm that you really want to subscribe." That way it prevents people from ex. using a friend’s email to sign up for everything and he gets all these lists. It has to be double confirmed.

What John is saying is he has 171 people who have given him their email list, they have clicked confirm and now they’re on his list, but there’s 100 people who’ve clicked on “I want your free product" or "I want to join your newsletter", "I want to be on your email list", but they never went in and clicked that confirmation link.

Now there’s a couple of reasons why this might happen. If it’s Gmail, your email may have ended up in the Promotions tab and they may have missed it or it could be in their spam folder if they’re using some kind of filtering. They could have just missed it or deleted it by accident. You don’t know why they didn’t confirm, so I would say yes - go ahead and contact those people and ask them “Hey we saw that you did not confirm to your subscription to our email list, would you like to do that please let us know”.

Tell them to check in their Promotions tab or in the spam folder and see if you can find that email. I would recommend doing that from a different address than you’re using on AWeber. That way you kind of give yourself a better chance of not triggering that same spam filter again. Nothing’s stopping you, you just want to be careful because you don’t want to harass people.

If someone has unsubscribed from your list then you probably don’t want to contact them anymore, but if you have people that have given you their email and they’ve just not confirmed their email address yet, then yes if you’re just starting out, you can try and find those people. If you can get 25% on your list then it’s going to be well worth the effort.

JOCELYN: And another thing we would say is to make sure the page people go to when they sign up to your list says something like “Be sure to check your spam folder because the confirmation link may go there and if you want to make sure you receive emails from me, be sure you click the confirm link" because I think a lot of people miss that step.

SHANE: Today’s question comes from Melissa Hall and she says:

“Where is a good place to get a physical book published or printed. I want to get my e-book into a spiral bound book that people can easily turn pages like a recipe or a binder, and do you ship them yourself or is it automated? How does that work?”

JOCELYN: This is the first time we’ve gotten this question so thanks for asking. We have actually started printing some digital products physically, I started printing elementary books in the library because a lot of people who were buying my product were asking for it to be printed and I actually looked at several different options before I decided what to do.

I did look at some print-on-demand websites and there are definitely some of those out there but the price was looking really expensive and I ended up going right down the street there’s a printing company and worked something out with them. The book printing is going to be expensive depending on what kind of book you have. Mine is a pretty lengthy book - about 400 ish pages - and it also has dividers in it, has a nice cover and is spiral bound, so I think the cost of printing my book is somewhere around $30. So it can get very costly, but you do pass that cost on to your buyer.

I actually have a friend and I mentioned her in some of the last Q&A podcast, her name is Shelly Hits and she has a website called TrainingAuthors.com. She’s actually self-published over 30 books. She prints them through Amazon and they fulfill them for her. So if that’s something you’d be interested in then I definitely recommend Shelly’s work and we’ll put a link to her page on the shownotes for this podcast on FlippedLifestyle.com/QA15. You were asking where to get them fulfilled and maybe Shane can talk about that a little.

SHANE: You can use print-on-demand by Amazon. I have a buddy who wrote a book and published it completely through Amazon. I’m not sure how exactly that works but you can get print-on-demand services from Amazon and you can find other companies to do that where they will actually do the shipping for you.

What Jocelyn and I did was that we got some local friends of ours, she was a stay-at-home mom and she needed some extra ways to make money and we actually now pay them to pick up the books from the local printing company and she takes them home and ships them out for us. Like Jocelyn said earlier it costs $30 to print the big book and we pay them something like $10 per book to box them and ship them out but we would charge $50-100 more for that product. If it is a lengthy product you would pass all that on to the consumer and you would take the profit on whatever was on top of that.

We chose local because we love to do local business and we would rather keep the money in our local community rather than pay someone for shipping, but if that is not an option for you then you can use Amazon’s program on Shelly’s website. She teaches you how to do that or you could find another drop shipping company online.
