2017 has started in a not so good way. The most powerful man in the world is Donald Drumpf, Sir John Hurt passed away, and I have a cold. But still, there are always things to look forward to. My return to health, the impeachment, and a tonne of comic booky, geeky, actiony movies to become palpably turgid about. And that's exactly what myself any good chum Aaron Sosa did, just before Christmas, when we went through our top 3 most anticipated movies of this year. Do you agree? Disagree? Amy Adams is a vampire. How old is she? Seriously. And don't google it to look it up. Google doesn't know a thing. In this film, Nocturnal Animals, she plays a woman when she's in her 40s, and in her 20s, and neither of them looks wrong. All I'm saying is if it somehow transpires that she is an ageless demon, sent here to make the human race think through interesting career choices and nuanced performances, you heard it here first. Here, my own ageless demon Tiffany B joins me to discuss this film, in hopefully a less waffl-y way than we have done previously. In the world of film, a truly wonderful director will use everything at their disposal to tell a story. Actors, soundtrack, script, costume, colour grade and even locations. And Manchester by the Sea certainly uses it's main location, Manchester by the Sea, as a bleak canvas to bleakly paint it's bleak story onto. But is it all bleak? Or is there joy and light shining through from within the fog-like bleakness? As a writer/director, how do you follow up an Academy award winning and critically lauded debut like Whiplash? In an ideal world, probably by making a film that wins more Golden Globes than any other film in history. And that's exactly what Damien Chazelle has done. But whenever my English eyes see a film that garners that kind of success, I get skeptical. Is it that good? Really? REALLY? 2016 is in the books, and everyone hated it. David Bowie died, Prince died, Alan Rickman died, and like a young person dealing with a breakup, the world seemed to make some bad, bad decisions. So as with any time of strife and real-world danger, I withdraw to the safe confines of super hero comic book movie adaptations. Enlisting the help of Mr Aaron Sosa, I make him run down the 6 superhero movies from the big three companies (Marvel, Warner Brothers and Fox) and we rank them all, like the brazen whores they are. There were dazzling highs, terrifying lows and creamy middles this year, and we talk about them all! Would you have ranked them differently? Let us know!

Everyone wants to direct, really, don't they? Anyone who has seen a film, or especially seen someone directing a film from behind a bank of monitors has wondered whether directing really is just telling people what to do. And who doesn't love telling people what to do? I... don't really, but I thought I should give the directing thing a whirl. And so I did. This is my account of the process so far. The highs, the lows, the lessons learned.
