Fleming Island Republican Sam Garrison will take the helm of the Florida House of Representatives following the November 2026 elections, after being selected for the role by his peers in October. He will replace House Speaker Danny Perez, who had a tumultuous tenure embroiled in public conflict with Gov. Ron DeSantis. The conflict marked an apparent shift in the alliance between the Republican governor and the state’s Republican legislative majority, which for years had an agreeable relationship. After Garrison was unanimously elected, he pointed to what he believes to be the biggest threat to the conservative movement in Florida: complacency. “This is not an external danger; it is internal,” Garrison said. “Our challenge isn’t the Democrats.
