Good morning. The five-year Flow State T-shirt is available here and we are off next week.
Today’s mix is the last one of the year. We’re departing from our usual meticulously ordered mixes and embraced a degree of randomness this time. We open with a Lou Harrison strings piece followed by a Kali Malone organ piece. We move through instrumentals from Daniel Ögren, Genfukei, Sven Wunder, and Bill Orcutt. We play some of our favorite recent discoveries from Rahul Sharma et al., Yara Asmar, and Tara Clerkin Trio. There are some 2023 favorites from Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Blue Lake before we dig into classics from Harold Budd & Brian Eno and Christopher O’Riley. We hope you enjoy.

Today’s episode is a collaboration with Michael Cina, a versatile artist and designer based in North St. Paul, Minnesota. Currently the principal of Cina Associates, he has gained a wealth of experience, having garnered accolades such as an Emmy win and a Grammy nomination for his design work. Cina also continues as an accomplished painter, showcasing his distinctive artwork in exhibitions worldwide. He also writes a newsletter, Cina, about his own process and design in general.
Michael shared a long playlist of his favorite instrumental music to work to. From the playlist we derived the tracklist below, focusing on artists we haven’t featured yet in Flow State (we think). It’s mostly ambient, with some piano and synth arpeggios, and the last 20-30 minutes are a more upbeat electronic. We hope you enjoy.
Michael shared the following about the music: “I use music to evoke seasons, worlds, moods, desires, etc. This season passed from a sweltering summer to winter, leaving my fall playlist tradition unfulfilled. My playlist is a fusion of elements from my past two autumn playlists and some songs I would have included for this year. It's a testament to finding beauty and solace in the unexpected. Music knows no bounds when it comes to capturing whatever we desire, be it the essence of changing seasons or the emotions that accompany them.”

Murray, Leo Takami, Blue Divers, Salamanda, and Joseph Shabason. Christine Ott does an amazing solo piano cover of the Vertigo score. We excerpt a track from Daft Punk’s new drumless reissue of their 2013 album Random Access Memories (specifically the track “Motherboard”). We wrap with electronic instrumentals from Kin Leonn, Moon Diagrams, and Evian Christ. There’s a Metro Boomin beat in there toward the end too. We hope you enjoy.

Good morning. Today we have a guest mix from FogChaser, an American composer and producer based in Portland, OR. We’re making his mix available to all subscribers.
As Fog Chaser, I release a new instrumental song every month exclusively through my free newsletter. I recently completed my second full year of writing these pieces.
The first twenty-four tracks of today’s mix make up Volumes I and II of my newsletter, a series of pieces in all twenty-four musical keys. The mix finishes with two lo-fi collabs and ten ambient tracks for a novel I’ve been scoring.
Only some of these songs have been released on streaming platforms — this is the first time they have ever appeared together in one place, exclusively for Flow State.
