Today’s mix is all film scores, following the Oscars this past Sunday. The scores nominated this year are all featured: Alexandre Desplat’s Frankenstein, Jerskin Fendrix’s Bugonia, Ludwig Göransson’s Sinners, Jonny Greenwood’s One Battle, and Max Richter’s Hamnet. Those are interleaved between classic themes (by Bernard Herrmann, John Williams, John Barry, etc.) and more recent standouts (by Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Nicholas Britell, etc.). We could only fit so many tracks into two hours, so if there’s one you love but don’t see, comment below. Some track names have the film title in it, but for those that don’t, see if you can guess the film by ear. We hope you enjoy.

The compilation was “released ahead of International Women’s Day (Sunday March 8), as a celebration and representation of women and gender expansive artists who are quietly and diligently creating art through their work in the ambient scene, and the music industry at large.”

Today’s mix is inspired by Ben Cardew’s recent report on Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter DJing with Fred Again. We cherry-picked instrumentals from across Daft Punk’s discography beginning with “Nightvision” from Discovery. That’s followed by tracks from TRON: Legacy and the drumless edition of Random Access Memories (released in 2023). There are a bunch of B-sides and remixes that eschew vocals: the Japan-exclusive “Horizon” from RAM, Moby’s remix of “Son of Flynn,” Masters at Work’s remix of “Around the World,” and Daft Punk’s own “Digital Dub.” We play a couple solo Bangalter singles from his Roulé days: “Club Soda” and “On Da Rocks.” The rest of the mix includes some of the duo’s better-known instrumentals from Homework and Discovery, such as “Da Funk,” “Voyager,” “Aerodynamic,” and “Revolution 909.” The mix ends with the drumless version of “Contact,” the final track from RAM. We hope you enjoy.

There are jazz pieces old and new, by Pino Palldino & Blake Mills, Matthew Halsall, the Phi-Psonics, and Keith Jarrett. The pace picks up with Tom Esselle, Lone, and Pizza Hotline. A field recording from Davi Music’s new environmental album, Standing Still/Five Nature Soundscapes, concludes the mix. We hope you enjoy.
