The last ladies event of the Grand Prix was a tight one, and we break down the possible benefit of Rika Kihira having a not totally clean skate, our anguish over three different ladies who competed here and who were only alternates to the final, and we try to foresee how the rest of the season might go for the Japanese and Russian ladies who are not in the final.

With the fifth grand prix competition completed, we begin our recap with a ladies field curtailed by withdrawals. We discuss how Samodurova and Yamashita handled the pressure of possibly making the final, our excitement that Eunsoo Lim is the first non Russian or Japanese lady on a grand prix podium, and discuss Gracie Gold's tough road to a comeback.

This was a bit of weaker ice dance field than some we've seen, and we gripe about Tango Romantica levels and pattern interruptions, before looking on the bright side to enthuse about our love for Stepanova/Bukin and Hurtado/Khaliavin's free dances, and how cool it is to see so many children of skaters competing against each other.
