  • S3 - EP 162 - Attorney Eric P. Mirabel: Files Discrimination Lawsuit Against Houston Strip Clubs
Attorney Eric-Paul 'Eric' Mirabel has filed a lawsuit on the behalf of Chanel Nicholson, exotic dancer against (3) three Houston strip clubs and its owners for employment discrimination with a rarely used, 155-year-old civil rights law that affords workers the same rights and abilities 'enjoyed by white citizens.'
Mrs. Nicholson, who is black, claims in a lawsuit her former employers Ali and Hassan Davari, two brothers who own a string of clubs .H.D. HOUSTON, INC. d/b/a CENTERFOLDS HOUSTON, W.L. YORK, INC. d/b/a THE COVER GIRLS, SPLENDOR GENTLEMENS CLUB, SOLID PLATINUM CABARE, where Nicholson claims was denied work because 'there were already too many black girls'.
Nicholson said 'I can put on makeup. I can comb my hair. I can look as pretty as you want to. I can act as sophisticated as you need me to, but I cannot scrub my skin off,' Nicholson told The Washington Post. 'I’m a Black girl and I can’t help that.'

  • S3 - EP 161 - Ocean Fleming: The Life After A Life Sentence
The sentence for Ocean Fleming, who pleaded guilty to first-degree kidnapping and two counts of assault after cutting a deal with prosecutors this year, was knocked down to seven years and four months to 15 years. His attorney, Janiece Marshall, said the agreement came amid a federal investigation into the Metropolitan Police Department’s vice unit.
In a 15-page sentencing memo, Marshall wrote that witnesses had lied about what the defendant had done after they were coerced by police and prosecutors.
“This is a highly unusual case because of what really went on in the prosecution of the case,” Marshall told District Judge Michael Villani on Tuesday.
The judge pointed out that there was no proof of false allegations against Fleming, but called the recanted statements and accusations against police “very troubling.”
Fleming has served slightly less than seven years of his previous sentence on 22 counts, including kidnapping, pandering, living from the earnings of a prostitute and battery.

  • S3 - EP 158 - Edrick Dillard: How Far Will Vice Go To Make A Case?
On July 23, 2014 a jury found Edrick Dillard guilty of Sex Trafficking, Living from the Earnings of a Prostitute and Preventing/Dissuading a Witness from Testifying. This is the first trial verdict of guilty under the new law, which took effect July 1, 2013 and established the crime of sex trafficking. Through Assembly Bill 67, the Sex Trafficking charge was established as a category B felony and carries a minimum term of three years in prison, and a maximum of ten years. Previously, the maximum charge under the law was Pandering and the penalty was one to five years in prison.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc Schifalacqua and Deputy District Attorney Chris Burton were the prosecutors on this case. “The use of the Sex Trafficking charge allows us to seek a much stronger sentence with this guilty verdict.” said Schifalacqua. “The goal is to deter this behavior in the future, and the longer prison terms will further that goal”.
“At the end of the day, we got a good conviction against a bad person,” said Burton. “He is now facing serious time in prison, and is convicted of trafficking, not pandering”.
In this case, Dillard, 38, was accused of meeting a woman online and luring her with promises of a legitimate job in his escort business. A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Vice investigation uncovered that this was in fact a front for prostitution. When the victim tried to leave the business, Dillard physically abused her and intimidated her into continuing to work as a prostitute. After he was arrested, he continued to intimidate her and her family to discourage her from testifying.
