  • Doing the Word Part 2 - John 13:17

Are you doing the word? The night before Jesus died he washed the disciple's feet. He even washed the feet of the man who would betray him. He then states that we will be blessed if we do these things. "These things" is a reference to verse 15, the actions he has done. Maybe everything he did over the 3 years, but certainly what he just did washing their feet. We think we can solve the world's problems by telling others how to act. But Jesus says we will be blessed if we do the lowly, menial, servant work. Doing the word seldom looks like telling others what to do. Often, it looks like washing feet. But the rewards are eternal. Imagine being blessed by Jesus? Imagine the greatest joy you can experience. Now imagine what it would be like to experience that joy forever because you laid down your life to help someone else.

  • Doing the Word - James 1:22

What does it mean to be a doer of the word? How can we "prove" ourselves as doers of the word? We must do the word. Remember Jesus' words in the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40), were that we should love God and love others. How can we prove ourselves doers? What does God bring to mind for you, when you ask him to show you any gaps you harbor in the ways that you care for people. I hope we, as marketplace missionaries, examine ourselves so that our actions prove ourselves doers of the word.

  • Bonus Episode! - Why Would We Want To Live Forever? Ephesians 2:1-4

Why would we want to live forever? If life on this world is all there is, I might not want to live it forever. But if God created us for a relationship with him, that exceeds our wildest dreams for joy and fulfillment, then I could certainly want that life. I want to be appreciated. I want to be valued. And I want to do things others appreciate and value. Maybe I was created for a relationship with my creator that blows my mind. But I have to trust him to enter into that life. Could that be true?

In Ephesians 2:1-4, we're given an idea of what our dead life is like and how we long for a real life. I experience the real life when I obey Jesus and enter his kingdom. Check out this explanation from Mike about why he wants to live forever and see if his answer helps you find your answer.

    Listening and Seeking Understanding

The times we are all undergoing are difficult. In Mike's interview with Chris, Chris addresses some things we could specifically be doing with our Christian foundations. The two major points are listening to other people and seeking a better understanding. These things are inherent in how we need to act moving forward. We as Christ-followers need to listen better. We need to seek understanding first and with that understanding, we can push forward to a better tomorrow. How are you listening to other people today? How are you seeking understanding? Tell us in your own words on Facebook so we can all learn from you!

    Appreciating People

Another big obstacle we face is stress during these times. This is probably the most stressful work-life situation we have all been through. COVID has changed everyone's lives across the world and we are just now seeking to do something after the initial shock. Appreciating people needs to be at the top of our list. How do we appreciate people? Chris talks about several ways to do so but the first step is being genuine to your friends, family, and coworkers about how you don't take them for granted. Asking simply "How are you?" and listening to those answers are just as important as well. How do you appreciate your co-workers? Your family? Friends? Maybe it is time to change some habits to make it clear!

  • Faith over Feelings Hebrews 13:6

Mark Batterson in Draw the Circle, gave Mike the idea that sometimes we need to stop telling God about our problems, and we need to begin to tell our problems about God. Mike mentions that Steven Furtick said this, and he may have, but after recording this episode, Mike re-read Draw the Circle and found it on Day 14.

In this passage we're reminded that since God has said that he will never leave us or forsake us, then we can say, God is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Do you remind yourself that your situation is in God's hands? That promise frees us to focus on others rather than fearing for ourselves. Command your feelings. Don't let your feelings about your life or your situation keep you from following Jesus' instruction to glorify him by serving others today. You will experience his joy if you remind yourself that your circumstances are subject to God and not the other way around.

Make sure and head over to MarketplaceMissionTrip.com and sign up for the next trip. There's no cost, and you will strengthen yourself for the purpose of ministering to others whatever you do every day.

  • Inexhaustible Treasure Luke 12:33

God is storing up a treasure for us. We will receive it when we get to heaven. And that treasure will never wear out or run out. How can you step out of your comfortable groove or rut and trust Jesus? Maybe we need to sell our possessions and give them away. What will you do today after hearing this?

  • Lost Gains Philippians 3:7

Paul says anything that might be to his credit, he counts it as a loss for the sake of Jesus. Can we lay our income, our accomplishments, and our resumes down for Christ's sake? We might be able to say it, but Paul lived it. He lived in a prison, maybe while he wrote this. Can you lay your gains at the foot of the cross so that others might see Jesus?

  • Challenge to the Healed Mark 2:11

Do you walk in such a way that others see Jesus? Does your life prove his power on this earth? The paralytic man that had been lowered through the roof was laying in front of Jesus. Jesus started an argument and used the healing of that man to make a powerful point. Jesus not only had the power to heal but also to forgive. Jesus is who he says he is. Now the question for us is, does our life prove Christ's power too? Well does it?

Why not join us on the next Marketplace Mission Trip and stretch yourself? The 2 weeks at the end of July can be the same old same old, or they can be different than anything you've ever experienced. The choice is up to you. Go to MarketPlaceMissionTrip.com to learn more and sign up.

  • Seeing Their Faith Mark 2:5

Jesus, can people see my faith? Do I do anything that makes my faith, in You, visible? When I trust you and do what you say, I trust that my faith is visible to others. These people brought their friend to Jesus. They had to lower him through the roof of the house. What am I willing to do because I believe in you?

  • Bonus Episode! Pure and Reverent Lives 1 Peter 3:2

What does it take to get someone's attention about the faith? I promise we can't talk anyone into following Jesus. We won't convince them by mentioning it every day for the rest of their life. Or sending them bible verses on Facebook every day. This is the 2nd verse in a 2-verse command by Peter to wives. But he goes on in verse 15 of this same chapter to suggest we wait to be asked. Our silent, respectful changed life is all anyone needs. God draws people to himself. We can't draw them to him, but we can draw near to him and let them see our hope and our peace. That's how God makes himself visible.

Today, let's live as servants quietly trusting Jesus to win our family, friends and coworkers. He is working in their life and our actions are part of his plan if we will simply pray, appreciate and serve. He will use us. Our actions will matter forever if we quietly live following him, and enjoying his peace and displaying our hope. We must do it in a quiet, pure and reverent way.
