Rather than trying to wedge Jesus into every conversation, Jesus is saying we will be persecuted because of who we are. We are people who pursue justice ("righteousness" in vs. 10) and we follow Jesus ("because of me" in vs. 11). In 1 Peter 3:14, Peter makes this point as well. We may suffer for the sake of righteousness. But, Peter reminds us to always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks. We don't need to force every conversation into a discussion about faith. Instead, let's live in such a way that others are confounded. Some will persecute, ridicule, or separate. But others will ask. And if we know what we believe, we will be able to speak for ourselves.
Jesus mentions persecution in these 3 verses, so let's put them together. The word used also means to follow after or pursue. It can be used negatively or positively. But notice the progression. First, we're persecuted for righteousness, seeking justice in our lives and in the world. Second is for following Jesus. And third, the prophets were persecuted because they spoke for God. Jesus is associating himself with God and I believe every Jew who heard this live was surprised by his comments. This is radical stuff. How can you speak for Jesus and seek justice in your world today? Expect some people speaking evil against you when you do.

Tools for Change
One of the most important things we can hope for is systematic change that we can influence throughout our life. One of the way Follower of One tries to implement this change is through our Marketplace Mission Trip! Addison talks about his favorite things on our Mission Trip and one of his points is that Follower of One provides the tools to equip you for change. We even take this one step further and give actionable items to then implement the tools we give you. What kind of tools do you use each day to implement change in your workplace? Just like training, we want to provide the tools and the steps to action each and every day. What does your action look like this upcoming week? Let us know what happens!
The Power of Relationships
Relationships might be the most powerful thing in our society beyond even knowledge. Addison specifically discusses this in his conversation with Mike. How do you build relationships? Does your faith play an important role in how you interact with people around you and potential new connections? We believe that this will be necessary to not only grow your network but inspire others to follow your lead! Addison's tag-line is "Helping people thrive" and by using your faith in connecting with people you can do just that! Addison uses LInkedIn heavily as a resource and outreach tool. What tools are you using to increase your center of influence?

Our times are weary and burdened or heavy-laden. After 3 months of Coronavirus and weeks on years of racial tensions, I can understand if you feel weary and burdened. Yesterday a friend and I said we felt like we were moving in slow motion. It's like driving through a fog. You can't see so you don't go very fast. You won't have time to react. We hesitate to plan ahead, to hire people. Everything about the future seems more uncertain.
Jesus knew this would happen. That's why he gave us this passage. In other places, Jesus says we should follow him. Often that is literally "come after" me. But here, his offer is for us to come to him. Let's take our weariness and burdens to him. We take his yoke when we join him, and do what he says, one step at a time. Today, pray for someone outside your family. Reach out to an old friend. Do one thing more than yesterday to serve others. Coming to Jesus and doing what he says _is_ the answer to our present situation. And we know it.
