Follower of One : Missions For The Rest Of Us

How do you rejoice in trouble or suffering? Many have lost jobs or had plans drastically changed. Many have lost money due to this pandemic. We can only rejoice in our suffering if we trust in God. In fact, I expect we can only rejoice in suffering to the degree we trust in God. Can you give some joy and encouragement to others today?

What do we hope for? If we hope in God, we become noticeably different. You've heard in our world that hope is not a strategy. Despair would be the only answer for our life. Notice how the media seems to regularly try to scare us. We have peace with God and our peace gives us access to God and hope in him. When we obey him, we experience his joy.

Are you willing to admit you don't know everything? I often think God is subject to my understanding. I want him to make everything fit in my mind. But the idea of the body of Christ is bigger than my mind can grasp. How do I fit in God's picture? I can't even imagine. The best I can do is trust God and do what he says. When he gives me a wild idea, may I do it quickly and look forward to the time when he reveals his strategy to me.

Yesterday we spoke about how we become slaves to whomever we obey. We were created to obey God. When we can focus beyond our bosses to our Lord, we serve our bosses well and we do the work God created us to do. We begin to break the habits we have established in the years we've been working according to the world's standards.

What is worry? God's message that we shouldn't worry is based on two things: His power and his love for us. When we worry, we deny one or both. Jesus' claims make him either a liar, a lunatic, or God. And if he's God, why do we continue to worry. As we return to our life, can we do it without worry? Can we make choices based on our convictions and our relationship with Jesus and then act with courage, trusting him?

Be Intentional 

 

What can we do if the actions of the Marketplace Mission Trip aren't natural to us? One of the best ways to accomplish a task outside of your comfort zone is to be intentional about how you do it. Not everything comes naturally to us, especially acting on a belief in which you fear you might receive negative feedback. I know it is especially difficult for me. Yet, Jacob sheds light on this subject and explains that we need to make a consistent and clear effort to accomplish our goals. Just like in our jobs, we should be wholly focused on completing the task at hand to the best of our abilities and the Mission Trip is no exception. Mike and Jacob discuss the Marketplace Mission Trip and give a brief explanation of what it is all about so make sure to listen in to get the details if you haven't already!

 

Integrity

 

Building trust around you is important. Especially in Jacob's line of work, trust, and integrity becomes an integral part of how he operates his business. Faith becomes a natural correlation to trust. We have to trust that the Lord is with us at all times right? And in doing so we have to live out our faith every day in a way that holds integrity close to our hearts. In this Interview Jacob talks about his mentor and how having the integrity to do what is right for the client always comes first and if we hold true to our beliefs then everything else will fall into place. When we first go to work in our first jobs, we are taught that we should do what our bosses want. And we set into motion a temporal idea of work. We begin to build habits that have our boss or our desire to be our own boss as the ultimate guide for our daily work. In Romans 6, we find that we become slaves to whoever we obey. Do we obey our bosses, or the world, or ourselves?

How can we make a difference in our world? Do we think we're not powerful enough to make a dent? When we maximize the fruit of the Spirit in our lives, we change the world, and we are changed. What do we do to get more of this fruit, we can't hoard it. We must give it away. When we give away more of each of these, we receive them in greater quantities. Try it out!

God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, we should clothe ourselves with humility. Every day, we have to put humility on. Our pride is like our nakedness. No one really wants to see that, for most of us. We want the clothing of humility in others and we need to show ourselves clothed in humility too. How can you clothe yourself in humility today?

We have a powerful God, but we are also part of a spiritual battle. The angel was delayed three weeks getting to Daniel to answer his request. Spiritual conflict is real. God is not subject to the conflict, but because God continues to give us the freedom to choose, evil has a place in our world. And the consequences of evil are real. Trust God and persist. God will prevail, but often we have to work through difficulties because of the evil in our world. Don't underestimate it, but trust God.
