    Dealing with the Whole Self

Dale begins to describe that every person is a "whole person". The whole person is a combination of three main things - Your work life, personal life, and your spiritual life. If you only address one or two of those things you are limiting both your potential and experiences. This directly relates to faith at work (spiritual life). We were all created to do something very specific but most of the time this is difficult to figure out and find. My listening and honing in on our "whole self" we can be to structure our next steps and find out just what God has in store for us. In fact, Dale wrote a book on this (one in a series) called The Identity Key. This book is designed to help you understand on a deep level who you were created to BE and could be a great place to start!

    Framework for Faith at Work

Everyone is walking on different paths through life but we all need a framework on how to get to an end result right? Faith at work is no different. In the conversation with Dale, the Follower of One Marketplace Mission Trip gave the right framework to make it easy for anyone to do. Dale talks about how it was an eye-opening experience that showed what he can be doing on a daily basis with everyone around him. What steps have you taken lately to pray for your coworkers? What about Appreciating people around you? Serving others? Knowing what you believe? If you want to do more – take a look at the next Marketplace Mission Trip and sign up! • Inspired and Profitable Part 1 - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
God's word was breathed out by God. It's his word to us. Do you believe the scriptures are true? They claim to be. We must know what we believe to be able to communicate that idea to people we interact with. Do you read the Bible regularly? Do you work to know God's instruction better? As you know about God you are more useful to him and he will put you to work in the lives of your coworkers, family and friends.

  • Full-time Faith - 1 Corinthians 10: 31
Do you practice full-time faith? What does it mean to glorify God or to do something ""to the glory of God?"" God gave us free will and our choices have consequences. God is veiled in our world. When we obey Him, we make Him visible. I think making God visible is the same as doing something for His glory. And we can do everything we do for His glory. Ministry is service. We become a full-time minister when we commit to serve others full-time so they might see God. Try it out!

  • Leaders Initiate - 1 Samuel 14:15
Part two from yesterday. leaders initiate. Many times God asks His people to move first. If we fail to trust God, it makes sense to stay safe. But when we trust God, He challenges us to take risks. After Jonathan kills 20 men, there is an earthquake. God jumps in and creates panic among the enemy. One person acted based on trust in God. God showed up in response. What is God asking you to do at work today? Where is He asking you to make the first move? Do it. You won't regret it.

  • What Motivates You? - 1 Samuel 14:6

What motivates you? Do you do anything because God makes you uncomfortable enough to ask? Has God asked you to do something that can only be explained by your faith in Christ? Jonathan took a chance and went and fought the Philistines when Israel was outnumbered. He took the risk because he didn't like living safely. When you trust God you will do things that appear to be risky. Others, who see you take the risk, will ask. Will you be prepared to answer? And, when you act trusting God, you will get an opportunity to explain your actions to others. Will you give God the credit?

  • The Problem of Fear - Matthew 25:25
The problem of fear. In this second message from the Parable of the Talents, one slave was afraid. His fear directed his actions. When fear directs our actions, we make bad choices. He chose to protect himself, to avoid the risk of loss and as a result, he lost. When we live generously, we win. We make Jesus visible when we're generous because we follow Him. Today, be generous. Give more than you get and make others successful.

  • Building Better Relationships in the Workplace with Jo’Ann Garcia, ep#18

This week Mike had the pleasure of speaking with Jo'Ann Garcia. Jo'Ann is a high school English teacher in a small school district in Texas. In this episode of the Follower of One podcast, Jo'Ann talks about her experiences walking through the Marketplace Mission Trip and how we learn to build better relationships in the workplace, whether they are students or coworkers.

    Episode Breakdown:

    1:00 - Meet Jo'Ann Garcia

    4:35 - Jo'Ann's take on mission trips

    7:50 - Jo'Ann's Marketplace Mission Trip Experiences

19:00 - Doing Something Local is Pertinent

21:40 - How to connect with Jo'Ann Garcia

Purpose Can Be Beyond Your Faith

Our purpose as Christ-followers goes well beyond our faith. We are not perfect, and we do not always make the right decisions. The point is, our Faith does not only define us but can define our relationships as well. Jo'Ann talks about how just a few years ago her faith was changed to go beyond just teaching nouns and verbs. Now it is about building a better future for her students, neighbors, and coworkers. Most of us don't have the time or resources to leave the country or go on a mission trip beyond our home town. We want to empower you to be a minister locally, in your own town, now!

The Power of Praying for People in Your Workplace

There is real power in prayer. Jo'Ann discusses just this - For example while going through the Marketplace Mission Trip, Jo'Ann learned that prayer for her students was something that could directly impact them on a daily basis who did not have an appreciation for education. We will learn that praying for coworkers, students, and neighbors are not just to inspire change for a better life but an obligation to build a better relationship with the people you are around each day.

    Practice Makes Us Better

Have you ever heard the phrase "Practice makes Perfect"? I think we all agree in the philosophy of the phrase itself and it looks to be true in our faith as well. Your workplace is inherently local to you. It is important that we do something local and not just something national or international. Jo'Ann has taken the Marketplace Mission Trip more than once and each time it was a consistent reminder in the practice of being a minister at work. Through that consistent reminder, we become better at our purpose and that is the key!

  • Well Done! - Matthew 25:21
Do you hope to hear Jesus tell you, ""Well done good and faithful servant,"" when you get to heaven? I do. When we examine this passage, though, we find little direction for exactly how to earn that accolade. Jesus wants us to go and trade our talent, our skills, our abilities, our who-we-are in the world. He will produce the result. We are good and faithful when we allow Jesus to direct how we trade the gifts He has given us in the world.

  • Endurance and Difficulty - Hebrews 12:2
Joy enables us to endure as a servant of God in difficult circumstances. Endurance and difficulty. Joy was a factor in how Christ came and died for us. If you're in a job you dislike, or maybe you're in job transition, today, the joy of God can help you endure. Focus on Jesus and experience God's joy. Then use that energy to serve and bless others. We serve and bless others because we know it brings us the joy to endure.

  • Banking on Joy - James 1:2
Banking on Joy. Does joy matter in your day? Do you experience God's joy at work? The promise and the hope of it can pull us through difficulties. It also energizes us and enables us to give more than we ever thought. It makes us transform in our circumstances. The joy set before Jesus enabled Him to save us. The joy of walking with God makes us ministers in our workplace.
