  • Praying for Others - 2 Chronicles 30:18-20
Praying for others, who aren't following Jesus, is something we are called to do. We don't only pray for their salvation. We pray that they would be blessed. This passage, from the days when Israel was divided, gives us an example. Hezekiah prayed for people who were from the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom. He prayed for the entire kingdom. Don't miss out on God's call to you to pray for the people near you today.

  • Practical Ways to Follow Jesus Part 2 - Psalm 15:4-5
Today is a continuation of practical ways to follow Jesus in our workplace. First and formost, is to remember that everyone is somewhere in their relationship with Jesus. We don't join them where they are in their walk but rather we live in such a way as to help them and ourselves move one notch closer to Jesus.Join me today in living so others are challenged to move a notch closer.

    Faith and Work Integration

How do we align our faith in the workplace? What types of examples can we build upon to integrate faith into the workplace? Pete talks with Mike about how to apply lessons being taught during service into the everyday workplace. Most of the examples we are given are not directly relatable to our workplace and this seems to be the first obstacle in connecting teaching to work-life applications. Testimony is your most likely answer to this problem. You need to talk to the people around you. For example -  joining the community at Follower of One can give you access to Christians who are focused on bringing their faith into the workplace, we can then use resources like this to build practical action to your lessons from Sundays. (Hint: In this very episode, Pete clearly defines a great way to differentiate how the Bible is applicable in your company "Kings vs. Priests")

Change What We Are Looking For

Most of us today might have a very romantic view on when God calls on us, or when God is acting in the world. For example - we might be looking for a “something big” (miracle) in our daily lives and not and something small (God told me to listen and understand other people’s points of view today). God is consistently and persistently acting and presenting himself to us but we might miss most of these cues. "We have to learn to translate the kingdom of God" - Pete Cafarchio. This is difficult but we strive to build upon our knowledge and the key is to translate and interpret what happens each and every day.

    How can we mobilize?

Seeds have been planted over the past 15 years in the Faith at Work environment. We need to share, distribute and cultivate more resources from our friends, communities, and leaders in the workforce. For example, this could come directly from our small groups, or maybe from our bible study, we have with friends each week. There are more and more people building traction on this "mission" and by deciding to take action - we can impact many more lives than we think.

  • What does a Jesus-follower look like? - Psalm 15:1-3
What does it look like to be a Jesus-follower in the workplace? We begin with integrity and honesty. Do you trust Jesus enough to tell the truth when it may produce negative results? We also should not slander or misrepresent things. We must be honest with ourselves, too. Often we judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their results. Evaluate yourself by your results and avoid harming or discrediting anyone else.

  • Joyful and Thankful - Psalm 9:1
Do you thank God for everything? Psalm 8 and 9 remind us that God is in control. He chose to put us in the positions we're in and He gives us our blessings. I spent so many days miserable at work, trying to get God to "get me out of there." But had I looked, I could have found much to be joyful and thankful about. Had I practiced this verse, I would have been in a position to be used by God to make a difference in the lives of others.

  • Shield and Glory - Psalm 3:3
God is my shield and glory. What exactly does that mean? How can God be my glory? How is He my shield? When I see how God has brought me through the last 10 years by going over notes in my journal, I see how God protects. He guides, too. And He gives grace and encouragement. As my glory, He sets my reputation. What He thinks of me matters, not what others think. And as my shield, I know He is protecting and guiding me. I can live in the peace He gives because he is my shield and my glory.

  • Draw Near to God - James 4:7-8
How do you draw near to God at work? For me, it begins with punching in. Starting my day by saying, "Here I am God. What do you want me to do today?" and then being aware and vigilant to see how He wants to use me. If we want to be with God and walk with Him and tell Him as much, He will put us to work. Try it today. "Punch in" with God to start your day and draw near to Him.

  • How to Rest in Jesus - Matthew 11:28-30
How to Rest in Jesus. Are you due for some time off? Do you, TGIF? Do you look forward to being off of work or dislike your job? Mike talks about how trusting Jesus is work. Jesus is working. The person who took God's gifts and buried them in the yard in Matthew 25 was called wicked and lazy. Jesus is working. We are told to take His yoke, become an ox right next to Him and work. How can we rest if Jesus calls us to work?

  • Outwardly Focused Living with Doug Pollock, ep#16

    Outwardly Focused Living

How do we become outwardly focused Christians? What does it mean to be outwardly focused? In this Episode of the Follower of One Podcast, Mike speaks with Doug Pollock who is an author, speaker, and coaching evangelist. Doug's main goal is to build a foundation for Christians to live an outwardly focused life, which means that our work lives on, outside of the church. Listen in to learn the details!

    Episode Breakdown:

    1:15 - Meet Doug Pollock

    2:50 - Doug's Book "God's Space"

9:00 - Building relationships outside of church

11:25 - Invest your time, don’t just spend it

    14:10 - Life Changing Story

    20:30 - Listening Well

    28:50 The Beauty of Wondering

32:05 - Conversations with Convicted Civility

    39:00 - Doug's work

Can we all be equipped to be Evangelists?

Not everyone is made to be the evangelists you see on stage or around crowds. Yet, God put us here to be his voice in a deafening crowd. So how can we all be equipped if we have different skill sets? Doug speaks on this, and it all starts with building practical, authentic and doable actions that everyone can accomplish. So, in short, Yes! You can be equipped but its not as easy as buying something online. It takes practice and determination. A great resource to take these actions to the next step is in Doug's book "God's Space" where he dives into these doable and purposeful actions that spark evangelism in your everyday lives.

    Listening Well

What does it mean to listen well? Why is listening so important? Doug believes that listening is key in both understanding and building trust with someone who might need the word of God. Sometimes we overlook this step. With an intense passion for God and deep knowledge in his word, we sometimes want non-believers to understand us before we begin to understand them. With practical listening, we should seek to understand someone before we decide that it is time they understand us and our beliefs. Building upon this, in Mike's interview with Doug, we learn that how we approach others on our relationship with God is the most important aspect of building a relationship. It all starts with listening!

    The Beauty of Wondering

Wonder. A desire to be curious or to know something. As the verb, wonder might have you reflect back upon children and how they seem to have an endless supply of it. But do we stop wondering? Doug discusses how the beauty of wondering means that you can come right back to missed opportunities. As Christians, we learn that we miss more opportunities than we take. Wondering has the advantage to reclaim some of those opportunities and using it as a tool to continue conversations centered around your faith at work. This also gives us some time to pray to get the best and wisest possible questions or solutions to that opportunity. So, maybe you missed an opportunity recently that you can recall. Can you think of one? We want to challenge you to go back and pray on it, think about it, and maybe come up with your own "wondering question" that can grab that person's attention once again. If you do, let us know in the community, Facebook, or wherever you connect with us!

  • God Initiates His Work in Us - 1 Corinthians 1:30-31

God initiates His work in us. This passage is a great reminder. Mike came across this passage years after he had memorized 1 Corinthians 1:27-29. God gave us our assignment and the freedom to turn Him down. We can choose to tell Him no. Or we can join Him using His wisdom, to become His righteousness, gain His sanctification and experience his redemption. When we join Jesus and live in the assignment He gave us, we experience His joy. Walk with Him today and watch His joy become visible to those around you.
