In today’s Gospel, Jesus drives two demons into a herd of pigs. We cannot drive the devil away on our own - we must trust in Jesus. The life of prayer calls for continuous battles. We must constantly fight to protect our hearts from the evil one’s attacks. But don’t be afraid - this warfare will yield victory.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Both these men spoke powerfully of Jesus and gave beautiful testimonies to His work in their lives. Even in the face of suffering and persecution, they did not give up on their message. How can we follow their example?

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist. In the Gospel, we read how Zechariah, who had doubted he would have a son, had his speech returned when he insisted that his son be called John. John surpassed all the prophets who came before him, and his ministry marked the beginning of the restoration of Man to the Divine Likeness. Like John, we are all called to be precussors to the coming of Christ. Sr. Ann reflects on today’s readings:

In today’s Gospel, Jesus warns us against doing good deeds for our own glorification. Do you live to please God, or do you live simply to please others? What are you looking for in return? Why would you forfeit the praise of God for the praise of others? Don’t live just for the here and now. Get an eternal perspective.
