We talked to Chef Jeremy Stephens from Galatoire's (until recently) who called in to talk about winning a European award for best North American Chef in a contest sponsored by Italian company Acqua Panna. His recipe for Trout with Crab Fat Popcorn rice will be featured in the San Pelligrino Best New Chefs book. And we talked about figs and chili and men who cook.

Nathaniel Zimet from Boucherie called in to talk about the NOWFE wine dinner at Boucherie. And we talked about paprika on Hungarian Independence Day. Also canning food, Sarah Bernhardt and Johnny Carson.

It's Thursday and that means a report from the Grocery Goddess Nicole Dorignac, who calls in each week to tell us what to expect missing from the grocery shelves in this new COVID world. And why.  We had the mom throwdown with the Connell sisters and Nicole, but the sentimental favorite Aline Fitzmorris (Tom's mom) won today for stuffed bell peppers. We also talked about alligators and Vitamin C and neighborhood groceries. And Del Frisco.

Stan Meadows checked in from Las Vegas where he has been researching the best red velvet cake in Las Vegas, and the best shrimp cocktail, in this the origin city for the dish. He talked about his next project, following the trail of Las Vegas gangsters.. We can't wait to hear. We also talked about Emeril's NOLA and apples. And we had a few good calls reminiscing about New Orleans neighborhood food markets

A lot of reporting on our eating in the last two days. We had a long lunch at Pyre Provisions and a fantastic dinner at 5 Girls last night where the red beans were simply the best we've had.
