DID somebody mention a European Super League? 

YP football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Phil Harrison to discuss – among other things – the decision by 12 of Europe’s so-called biggest clubs to create a closed-shop, European Super League. 

Those at the very top of the footballing tree - including six from the Premier League - found a way of scoring quite possibly the most spectacular own goal ever seen in the game.

Sunday was when news first started to come out about the plans but, by Tuesday night, following a barrage af criticism and anger from fans, administrators and politicians, those plans were left in tatters, with the majority of clubs having now withdrawn and left scrambling for cover.

We’ll also look at the rise of Barnsley who, under Valerien Ismael, have put themselves in a prime position to reach the Championship play-offs as well as casting an eye towards Bramall Lane to look at the decisions which now have to be made by Sheffield United in light of the weekend confirmation of their relegation from the Premier League.

WITH just a handful of games remaining, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United remain the two Yorkshire clubs in the most perilous predicament in the Championship - both stuck in the bottom three, seven points from safety.

But, following Tuesday night’s 7-0 thumping at the hands of leaders Norwich City, there remains concern for Huddersfield Town, who still need to pick up a couple of wins in order to guarantee their survival. 

The YP’s chief football writer Stuart Rayner and sports writer Ben McKenna join host Mark Singleton to discuss the battle to beat the drop for our three teams, before going on to discuss the latest news on Sheffield United’s search for a new manager.

YORKSHIRE CCC get their 2021 season up and running on Thursday when they host Glamorgan in County Championship at Headingley.

After the truncated campaign of last year, brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, Yorkshire are looking forward to the 2021 campaign in the hope of returning to some kind of normal. The schedule and formats of competitions will be somewhat different and, also, there will be the introduction of The Hundred to factor in for the first time for some of the White Rose’s players.

Joining Phil Harrison to look akead to the campaign will be The Yorkshire Post’s cricket writer Chris Waters and special guest, Yorkshire’s captain, Steve Patterson.

This week’s show focuses on the top half of the Championship - with a little bit of Premier League Yorkshire derby chat thrown in for good measure.
