The Mikes of Oscar review another Best Original Song category in this week’s halfisode. Some good songs and some horrendous music videos make this one of our more explosive listening experiences to date, if we do say so ourselves (we’re pretty great at this). So there’s a ton of bad motion picturing to heckle, made worse by the grotesque trailers for the first two of the films in our discussion, and our immaturity / moral outrage basically derails the entire podcast. Though as usual, our loss of sanity is your gain in entertainment value.
The delightful pop song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” by the beautiful talent of Stevie Wonder soundtracks perhaps the slimiest movie we’ve reviewed thus far on our podcast. We cannot resist pointing out every unforgivable flaw and music video faux pas. Then kicking us while we’re down, the cause of much of our pleasurable guilt, Phil Collins somehow soundtracks the dopiest bimbo nonsense movie of the decade. If that’s not disturbing enough, the videos for Ghostbusters and one of the Footloose songs commit mortal sins neither of us could ignore.
Luckily, there’s a hero nearly capable of saving this podcast and the cinematic world as we know it, and of course, his name is Kevin Bacon. Footloose cut-ups and Kenny Loggins do grant us a repose from some of the worse angels / demons of our nature, but again, the deep unsettling evil of Oscar Nominated 80’s music videos enrage us to a fiery close. Do not miss this unrelenting horror pod that is the 1984 Best Original Song episode. You’re welcome.
If you enjoy these bouts of mental illness we call our halfisode series, do check out the five previous installments where we actually enjoy MOST of these nominated songs. The 1992 episode is especially gush filled to prove my point. Hell, even the 1987 category gives us all the Time of Our Life. So I’m not lying. 84 just happened to be the year of the antichrist (and also the year of my birth. Go figure).
This Oscar off-season has been nothing, if not eventful for our podcast. We’ve reviewed the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe including full reviews of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and even the Fox Marvel installment distant cousin that was Deadpool 2. We’ve also review other movie events like A Quiet Place, The Cloverfield Paradox, and the rest of Netflix. Our preview episodes as well as our HHT no 6 and early 2018-19 Oscar Prediction episodes have looked forward to the year that is and that is to come, and we’ve even taken a strong look at every basketball movie ever made in a 2 part series in honor of March Madness and the NBA playoffs. So there’s a ton of audible entertainment for you to enjoy from MMO this off-season.
Stay tuned for some upcoming retrospectives. We’ll be reviewed the 1989 Best Original Screenplay category featuring Do The Right Thing and Dead Poet’s Society, and then we’ll dive into the 1991 Best Actress group featuring Silence of the Lambs and Thelma & Louise.
As always, feel free to chat with us on social media. We’re on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, and Gmail. Our website mikemikeandoscar.com is in the works. Then when and where you can, do please help us spread the word about our show. When reality sucks, keep watching those movies and listening to those nominated songs with us. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar!
