  • Dr Karen Morley on how to acknowledge, address and beat gender bias.
BONUS Dr Karen Morley on how to acknowledge, address and beat gender bias.
This week we celebrated International Women's Day and the timeliness of this conversation could not be better. Karen’s new book “Beating Gender Bias” persuasively challenge what we don’t know, elegantly reframes the conversation around gender as opposed to just women and expertly engages both individuals and organisations to be part of the solution. That said, every professional woman we speak, and many men, are looking for not just what has to change but HOW it can be different and this conversation with Karen highlights the importance of leading the way when it comes to Gender bias in our organisational culture, team work and at even more granular levels in how to change the conversations and meetings to reflect great gender equity. This show will give you two big things. Firstly it will give you optimism and hope that we can all be part of the change that needs to take place. Secondly, it will give you practical steps to make the personal changes that need to take place as well as the more substantive, organisational changes, that need to occur. Dr Karen Morely brilliantly helps us with the what, why and how in her book ‘Beating Gender Bias.”

    About Dr Karen Morley:
Karen Morley is an authority on the benefits of gender balanced leadership and how to help women to succeed at work. It’s her own history of experiencing difference and exclusion that drives Karen’s motivation to beat bias. She’s working hard to help leaders understand the value of inclusive leadership to organisational as well as social outcomes. Karen has helped organisations like Bunnings, CSL, Department of Education, Department of Justice, Downer, Fulton Hogan Australia, HASSELL, Melbourne Water, QBE, Officeworks, and the University of Melbourne on their diversity and inclusion programs. She has previously published Gender-Balanced Leadership: An Executive Guide to help organisations be fairer and get great results and Lead like a Coach: How to Make the Most of Any Team to help leaders increase engagement and get better work done.

  • Nona Jones from Facebook on how she overcame personal trauma and turned it into professional triumph.
    Nona Jones:
Stories of triumph are inspiring, right? Nona Jones is one such story. Openly sharing her abusive childhood, her driven early adulthood and her transformation to an inspiring leader and head of faith-based partnerships at Facebook will give you both the inspiration and the pathway to what might be the start of your own healing journey. Nona is unapologetically bold and raw about her brokenness and also wise in the way she owns her unresourceful thinking and behaviour. Her journey through forgiveness to wholeness to ongoing disciplines that keep her healthy and effective is simply inspiring. The serendipitous moments of her life and career are incredible to listen to as her deep trust in a future that wasn’t yet clear helped her make bold choices that have paid off big time! Expect to hear a raw and honest account of how Nona suffered growing up, expect also to hear how she slowly came to realise what the critical steps to her own healing were and how her brokenness acted out in her professional life. Also expect to hear about a woman who has great faith, courageous conviction and infectious optimism about what’s possible when your life is lived from the inside out.

Nona Jones is a rare combination of preacher, author, business executive, entrepreneur, media personality and worship leader. In her day job she serves as the Head of Global Faith-Based Partnerships at Facebook where she leads the company’s work with faith-based organizations around the world. She is also CEO of eChurch Partners and is set to release her memoir, Success from the Inside Out, with Zondervan Publishers in 2020. Her memoir chronicles her unlikely story of success after a childhood filled with physical and sexual abuse between the ages of 5 and 11. Since being licensed into the gospel ministry at the age of 17, Nona has preached around the world. As a business executive and entrepreneur, she has been profiled by ESSENCE Magazine as an “Under 40 Woman to Watch” and Florida Trend Magazine as one of Florida’s “30-Something All Stars.” She has also been featured on TBN, CBN News and The Word Network. Steve Coote on his lessons in educational leadership and why ordinary leadership is anything but.
Being proactive about what you’re learning and how to reframe the role of a leader is critical in this particularly disruptive time. Steve Coote has this on overdrive in this interview as he reflects on his own learnings from a varied career that has seen him reach the pinnacle leadership role in significant schools and now resetting his thinking around discovering and shaping the qualities of the people entrusted to you. In this conversation, you’ll hear wisdom on over two decades of leadership, how he challenges himself to improve from the inside out and what his views on ordinary leadership are anything but ordinary. Steve unpacks an often espoused but rarely applied idea around flattening the leadership hierarchy and widening the leadership opportunity by noticing and celebrating the extraordinary “ordinary” things people do day in and day out to serve, influence and build.

  • Paul Farina on how the Rhythm Effect is more about synchronisation than hard work.
Paul Farina on how the Rhythm Effect is more about synchronisation than hard work.
    FLG_BONUS_004
Rhythm as a universal law is a beautiful thing to behold. It seems almost effortless when you see it playing out in nature, sport, business and leadership. It’s presence flys in the face of the try harder mentality. Conversely, the lack of rhythm can be devastating to the mission and objective of your team. Things appear out of sync, outcomes seem hard to come by and you look, well, kind of uncoordinated. The antidote to a lack of rhythm is not hard work. It’s synchronisation, argues author and speaker Paul Farina as we unpack his fresh approach to leadership and teamwork. Listeners will be handed a 101 of how to diagnose their current rhythm reality, make positive adjustments, and lean into a more optimal approach to work, communication, engagement and team play. Paul delivers an effortless display of his core convictions in action as he unpacks and demonstrates his thought leadership in action.

Eleanor & Erin on how a passion to help meets a platform to serve and how Empty Esky became a thing!
    FLG_018
Australians are famous for helping people in need. Ready to give a hand up AND a handout. With the devastating bushfires that ravaged our country over the Summer of 2019/2020, the response of people to help and give in the face of the loss of life, homes and livelihoods and livestock was unprecedented. And yet, nearly a year on, consistent with most disasters of this nature, there is still so much to do and so many lives and businesses in need of support and restoration. While both sick in bed watching the loss unfold real-time in front of them Eleanor and Erin created the Instagram page Empty Esky and in the time from then to now the commitment and momentum have grown deep and wide to invite our country to visit, serve, and be generous like Aussies do! Turning hope into action and generosity with skin on has been the passionate commitment that Eleanor and Erin have made all year since the devastating loss, and with your help, Empty Esky will become Australian folklore in the years to come. Join the movement.

    ABOUT:
ERIN - Erin Boutros thrives on re-imagining. A pivotal moment for her was at a community event, sewing pads for girls overseas when she realised it was the wrong way around. She felt the girls overseas needed the skills to sew their own pads, not be kept dependent on donations. She obtained government grants, sourced supplies and established a sewing project and a charity. Currently, her reimagining is focused on the Empty esky campaign, bringing together fire-affected businesses and Australians keen to buy directly online or visit personally. If it’s tweaking or improving, she’s bored. If it’s operating from a blank slate, she’s in.
ELEANOR - Eleanor Baillieu has worked in marketing, communication, photography and social media in the USA, UK and Australia in film, fashion, hospitality, apparel, sport, tourism and the community. In 2020 she co-founded the NFP Empty Esky to help provide direct commercial support to bushfire affected businesses across Australia. Empty Esky has had an unprecedented impact and has been acknowledged by Federal, state and commercial leaders.
