In this episode Vernaire and I sit down with Dee Allen, the Group Director of Colour at The Mill. Founded in 1990, The Mill is a Visual Effects & Creative Content studio headquartered in London and with three offices in the United States. The Mill is known for visual effects, moving image, design and digital projects for the advertising, games and music industries.

Our interview with Dee was by far one of our most enlightening, informative and motivational interviews to date. As, Dee took us on trip down memory lane from the lessons he learned at Goldsmiths University, his humble beginnings as a runner, juggling life behind the camera as a young Dad and how he worked hard to learn and develop his craft as a screenwriter, film and TV producer and a Director.

One of the most remarkable things about Dee’s story, is that after making a name for himself in the UK, at the age of 40 he decided to up sticks and move to New York where his journey with The Mill began. This transition in his life took our interview to another level, as it allowed us to not only explore the highs of his career, but also those times when he had to dig deep to embrace where he was in his life both physically and mentally and where he had the potential to go and grow.

Following on from Episode 19, where we discussed with artist/producer Mayday-Carter how the internet is changing the landscape for upcoming producers, we reached out to one of our very own podcast listeners for a follow up discussion... It’s not everyday that we get to record a ‘sick’ interview with a ‘sick’ guest and have @nandosuk

Heritage Social Arts & Dance spends nine to ten months rehearsing for Carnival. Dance is at the heart of what they do and the energy at the rehearsal is infectious. Toddlers, teens (and even the occasional parent) bounce to the vibrant beats of souped-up dancehall. 

The aim of the group is to encourage and to promote social inclusion, equal opportunities, prevent antisocial behaviour, promote social relationships within the community and the group by bringing family values back to the community through social activities, arts and dance.

The group’s float has appeared at Carnival for the last 15 years, and it’s always been in the top three at judging. It receives no outside funding and it depends on the passion of its volunteers. - Bex Shorunke, Timeout Magazine

In this episode I sit down with MC Buskin, one third of the UK Garage group the Heartless Crew. As pioneers of UK Garage, Heartless Crew played a fundamental role in the rise of the genre and they continue to be respected globally for their contributions to the UK music scene. I have been a fan of the Heartless Crew since I was in secondary school and listening to them on Mission FM, but I had never really heard their story. So, I was really interested in finding out more about how it all started and how they were able to have a major influence on a genre of music, at such a young age.

I took Bushkin on a trip down memory lane and got an insight into his childhood, his musical influences, the formation of the Heartless Crew, the rise of the Crew and why they eventually decided to go their separate ways in 2011. This was definitely a nostalgic interview for me, but I am extremely proud that I got the chance to do it. I learned so much about Bushkin, the other members of the crew and the music scene in the 90s and 2000s during our conversation, and I genuinely hope that you do to.

In this interview I sit down with Nene Parsotam the CEO of Vine Creatives, a Senior Art Director and a Digital Designer who has worked in the creative industries for over 13 years. Nene has worked with some of the largest brands in the world including the Wall Street Journal, Disney, L’Oréal, HP, Warner Bros, Visa, Samsung and Vodaphone just to name a few. From crafting digital and online advertising campaigns to designing and building websites, she is quite literally a creative force to be reckoned with.

During our conversation we discussed what it was like growing up in England in the 80s, embracing both sides of her culture, self acceptance and what it really takes to go where there is no path and create one.

I walked away from this interview feeling motivated to do the things that I love to do, but she also impressed upon me the importance of not just seeking to take from others, but to also go out into the world with the intention of add valuing to the lives of every person that I encounter.
