  • Long Haired Country Girl Part 1 - Pass the Jam Series

    Send us Fan Mail

Well, welcome to this week's two-part episode of #ForWhatit'sWorthwithBlakeMelnick called  #LongHairedCountryGirl . This episode is the next installment in our #PasttheJam music series, where our current artist in residence #BlairPackham a will join me to help pass the jam to an amazing new artist.

Rooted in the heart of the Kootenay Rockies. She draws her inspiration from the wild and rugged landscape that she calls home from the river she wades in and from the small town working life that. With our use of traditional instruments, kinetic foot percussion, old time lyrics. She puts herself into the category of roots and blues with just a hint of old time and bluegrass.

She has recently incorporated playing electric lap steel into her live shows where she fuses her love of blues and bluegrass together into a rock and roll one woman. With the help of an upgraded boss loop station and Octavia pedal, and a pair of hand crafted butter box. Cahones set up as a kick and snare drum.

She can recreate a sound that could only be accomplished before with a three-piece band using distorted slide, guitar and foot drums to cover bands like led Zepplin, Joe Walls, CCR,  Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Hendrix. She has taken her solo shows to a whole new. She has played alongside some of the best musicians in the east and west Kootenays, and over the years has developed a multi instrument, musical diversity, which she brings to every musical project and performance.

She has developed a style that is truly unique and a reflection of who she is. From delicate stories of love and loss, to tongue and cheek murder ballads, to rock and roll covers that get the crowds out of their chairs dancing. She writes from the heart, resulting in a degree of authenticity, seldom seen in a live performer. Check it out ... For what it's worth

  • Song Food - A musical Interlude with guest Blair Packham

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to this week's episode of #TheSpaceinBetween called #SongFood. I'm your host #BlakeMelnick. And this episode is a lead into our popular music series called #PasstheJam. For those of you that are new to the show and unfamiliar with this series, here's the skinny. What began as an idea, born from our frustration, with the inability to play recorded music on for what it's worth because of the cost and restrictive nature of copyright laws particularly as they relate to podcasts as morphed into something completely different, a creative, new approach for supporting artists, their music and their stories. One which breaks free from traditional industry norms and the typical directed listener experience. It's an approach, which places, the artist and their music at the center, and allows listeners to hear music they might not otherwise be exposed to and develop a deeper connection with the artists and their stories.

For the past month or so, we've been playing songs written by our current artist in residence, Canadian music icon #BlairPackham for all the intros and outros to the show. Before our next episode of #PasstheJam where Blair will join me as a co-host to pass the jam to an exciting new artist, we're going to have a bit of a musical interlude where I get to be a DJ and play all of Blair's tracks in their entirety.

I hope you enjoy this episode of the space in between. #ForWhatitsWorth.

  • Many Faces of Innovation Part 3 - Conclusion of "Bridging the Gap" with Dr. Tom Carey

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to this week's episode of #ForWhatitsWorthwithBlakeMelnick. This is the conclusion of our three part interview with #DrTomCarey, part of our #innovation series, #TheManyFacesofInnovation called #BridgingtheGap".

In our last episode, Tom and I discussed the difference between #entrepreneurs and #intrepreneurs, the future of learning and work as a result of changes brought about by the pandemic, the importance of context in innovation and the motivations to innovate.

In this episode, we zero in on the specific skills of the innovation capable graduate and employee. We re-imagine work, and learning in Higher Ed and in the workplace and the importance of bridging the gap between younger employees and older workers in terms of creating mutually beneficial results for both employees and organizations, and we discuss #WINCan The Workplace Innovation Network for Canada... For What it's Worth.

  • Many Faces of Innovation Part 2 - Bridging the Gap with guest Tom Carey

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to this week’s episode of #ForWhatit’sWorthwithBlakeMelnick.  This is part 2 of my interview with #Dr.TomCarey called #BridgingtheGap”, part of our new innovation series the #ManyFacesofInnovation

In last week’s episode Tom and I discussed the challenges facing Canada around innovation as well as some of the ways in which we can make #innovation more understandable, accessible and actionable within both high ed and workplace settings in order to ensure every graduate is innovation capable and every employee is able to contribute to innovation within their organization.

In this weeks episode Tom and I reflect on many ideas that we discussed in the first episode, originally recorded back in 2020 at the height of the pandemic when the ways in which we approached learning and work were fundamentally changed, and see where things stand now. We also go deeper into the Mindsets, Skills, Knowledge and Experiences that underpin innovation capability and we explore ways in which we can “Bridge the Gap” between academic institutions and workplaces, leading to systemic improvement in Canada’s overall capacity for innovation …For What it’s Worth

  • The Many Faces of Innovation Revisited (Part 1)

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to our first episode of season three, of #ForWhatitsWorthwithBlakeMelnick.

For those of you that had a chance to listen to our trailer for season three last week, know we have an amazing season in store for you. This first episode is actually a re-release of the original podcast we did back in June, 2020.

The reason we're re-releasing this episode is twofold. Number one, the first version was pretty ugly, and secondly we're using this episode as a launch  pad to a new series on innovation called #TheManyFacesofInnovation, where we will explore #innovation, through the eyes of#innovators from across multiple fields of endeavor.

Tom and I will build on this episode, with a follow on episode where we reflect on the ideas we discussed back in 2020, revisit some of those predictions and see where we stand now and where we might be headed in the future

So welcome to ForWhatitsWorthwithBlakeMelnick, Season three.
