Shutterstock I left my first post-graduate school job for a different one about a year after starting. Two years later, and I parted ways with that one, too. I know what you may be thinking—ah, the typical millennial who’s never satisfied and complains about everything. It’s OK if you think that. In fact, I thought the same thing for a while.

There’s a lot of information online about millennials. Some of it is anecdotal, some of it is statistical. Yet if you look at the authors writing on it, you won’t find many millennials. In fact, many of those who are commentating on this topic and passing on wisdom to young people are often much older than those in the demographic.

But as it turns out, women really shouldn’t be negotiating the same way as men — if they want to be most successful.

I could see the way the JOBS Act of 2012 would open up crowdfunding to a wider audience than ever before, and I knew from working with my mother that the world of real estate was ready for disruption. She was a real estate agent, and I watched her go through mountains of tedious paperwork by hand.

After all, the average job gets a lot of applicants, and if you have an in, there’s no reason not to use it. But what happens when you ask for one and end up deciding that you don’t want the position after all.
