For many people, what a job pays—and the benefits it offers—are important things to consider. But for working parents, both of those things are trumped by work flexibility, according to a new survey from FlexJobs. In the survey, when asked what the “most important” factors in a potential job are, 84% of working parents named work flexibility, followed by work-life balance (80%). Salary (75%) and health insurance (42%) came in third and fourth on the list.

As little kids we were taught to be nice and to avoid upsetting people. For a lot of kids staying on everybody’s good side means saying things you don’t mean and keeping quiet about things you care about. When we get into the working world it can be hard to find your voice. People get fearful very easily at work. If you are sensitive to other people’s reactions, you might unintentionally couch your words extra-carefully to avoid saying anything that could offend someone.

One of the more frequent stereotypes assigned to millennials by Gen X and Boomers is that they do not separate work and friendship relationships. The frustration is that the lines blur between coworker and friend, potentially causing less work to get done. According to the 2012 Millennial Branding Survey, millennials become Facebook friends with an average of 16 of their coworkers.

If you’ve tried using positive affirmations, you know that it can be a difficult habit to maintain.

When I was a kid, I thought I could do anything. I was going to be the next Nadia Comaneci when I did gymnastics, the next Chris Evert when I played tennis and the next Vivian Leigh when I watched old movies with my sister. I grew too tall for gymnastics and my silver screen ambitions faded like Scarlett O’Hara’s “velvet-curtain” dress. But tennis was different; with tennis, I lost my confidence.
