I always say that the only people who get more advice than job-seekers are pregnant moms or new moms. When my kids were little, I got unsolicited advice left and right. Total strangers would tell me “Put a sweater on that baby!” or “That baby is too hot!” Job-seekers get a lot of advice, too, but not all of it is good advice.

Dear Liz, A job search is a series of ups and downs, I know. Still, I’ve had a few disappointments right in a row and it’s very frustrating. This week I got a call from a headhunter in New York. He got my name from an ex-boss of mine. We had a good talk and after that, I talked to the VP at the company that has a job opening I might be right for.

(Image credit: Shutterstock) Though it may not be the most important factor in choosing where you want to live, it’s interesting to know which cities give you the best bang for your buck. That is, the areas that offer low cost of living and provide decent opportunities for jobs that pay well.

We spend our lives transitioning and arriving. If we’re ready to move on—whether it’s leaving a city, a job, a relationship—we plan the heck out of our departure. We get so revved up that when we finally land somewhere new, it can be hard to calm down and be content. We ask ourselves, “Is this it?”. We feel too caffeinated. Our eyes look everywhere. Other times, we’re forced to transition. Then, we feel like retired racehorses.

But choreographing a daily parade of medical professionals is anything but convenient for the family caregiver who typically “quarterbacks” such services — especially when that caregiver is working from that home.

One of the most important and core elements a company of people can be aligned on is their mission, vision and values about the company. These components are essential and powerful drivers for the exec team to efficiently achieve the success they want. Your first impression is more and more likely going to be formed online. That’s thanks to the new phenomenon, Digital First, a term that was coined by Mitch Joel in his book, Ctrl Alt Delete. Your Google results paint a picture of who you are and reveal how visible you are on the web; and visibility (at least among your target audience) is critical to successful personal branding. Your Google results also become useful data points for those who are looking to make decisions about you.
