Don’t choose a mentor. Despite the corporate world having encouraged mentorship for more than 35 years, it’s an outdated and imperfect model. In this fast-paced world filled with innovations and changing workplaces, you should redirect energy that would go to fostering a mentor relationship and instead find a personal board of advisors and develop a strong network that you own. Rather than leaning on a single mentor, develop a professional network of advisors.

We are stepping out of one working world and into a new one. Most working people are slow to make the change. We can’t see that the ice floe is shrinking under our feet.
