Forge The Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast

This is a bit of a short episode. We’ve had back to back travel and birthdays and had to condense this a bit this week.  Thank you so much for being patient with us.  In this episode we do an Adepticon 2025 recap and in part 2 we give our thoughts on the must buys for Emperor’s Children this wee,

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

Adepticon was an absolute blast.  People were a little apprehensive about it moving to a completely new city but that was completely unfounded.  The convention was stronger than ever with likely getting close to 9k people in attendance throughout the weekend. Wow!

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

The 40k singles final was a bit of a nail biter and needed the judges to help work it out due to the clock becoming an issue.  When the fireworks settled the Ultramarines took it but not before we got to seem some masterful Yanarri play from the Aeldari player.

In part 2 we talk about the Emperor’s Children must buys as more kits go up for pre-order this weekend..  If you want to jump in and are on a bit of a budget maybe our thoughts will help.

The New Detachments are in folk’s hands now and people seem to really like them. Factions have a whole lot of new life breathed into them.  The Detachments are real elegantly designed way to plug and play new design concepts and give armies a face lift to use more of the existing ranges.

We kick off with a short conversation about blending old models with new models and ifw we are ok with that.  Of course it comes down to personal preference.  No one should be giving you any grief about it. But these are some of the personal things we struggle with as Warhammer players

The new Detachments continue to give to players with deep collections.  We really like this. We talk a good bit about the Daemons and how that army is getting some new chaotic life.

Great Unclean Ones might make a comeback.  They seem to fall in and out of favor and we completely understand how hard it is to balance Nurgle but this might actually do it.  It feels fun, theamy and a way to reward players for having those models.

Ork players get ready.  Like, wow.  There are some great updates in today’s update that are sure to impress.  We talk about some of them on this show and more to come on ANOTHER show this week.

I mention Orks in the header because they are gonna get a huge burst of power out of this new detachment but there are tons of cool things in this update that are sure to sort of bring a little bit for everyone.

We really like where the game is right now.  This dataslate looks at a few of the power hitters that have  been dominating certain environments but the designers do a bit to lift everyone up at the same time.

We love a lot of the changes and are looking forward to seeing how it get on to the table top.  Everyone getting access to these new detachments is pretty amazing.

The Emperor’s Children are up for Pre-Order now and they are pretty excellent.  There are 6 Detachments and a couple of them seem ready for prime time.  This box set is just a taste as you are more that likely going to want more models to flesh out your collection and take advantage of the new stuff.

Princes will be a thing.  Land Raiders will be a thing,  Rhinos are a thing right now but will be even more so. The Detachments bring a lot of cool things but the base stats of a lot of the units in this book are certainly compelling enough.

There seems to be a couple of notable exceptions from the book in the way of no cultists.  Fulgrim, while being a monster in combat, is a strange one here. He will definitely be a must get but I’m not sure he will make it into every list.

Maybe we’re wrong there but there seems to be a lot of good reason to gravitate to the non Primarch options if you’re going for pure utility.  Lucius the Eternal is going to be rude…

The Nachmund Gauntlet is up for pre-order and gives players additional umph for their Crusade games a few extra tricks.  This is right up Red’s alley and he goes a little nuts.  You can tell how fun this is.  Have you given it a shot yet?

We mostly end up talking about Matched Play most of the time as it is near and dear to our hearts but this week we stray a bit and talk about Crusade rules hitting the shelf soon with the Nachmund Gauntlet.

New ways to play 40k is always cool.

In part two we talk about what the Aeldari release might do the meta.  With Astra Militarum and Aeldari both hitting the tables at the same time, is it going to be enough to cause the splash we think it is?

Codex Aeldari is hitting the shelves officially this weekend and wow oh wow. There are so many good options.  We do come to the consensus that there are two standout Aeldari codexes that play a lot like the army has in the past. The Ynarri is a stand out too but we don’t talk about that yet..

Paul is a longtime Biel-tan player so it hard not to be immediately drawn to the Aspect Host detachment.  It is likely the most safe from FAQwatch – tm.  The question is how many points is too many points on characters. Right now I’m leaning towards the Avatar too which is a nice idea to include.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

Shining Spears are still a standout unit too.  So once you have the Avatar, a character or two with one of those being a Phoenix Lord a a minimum, you basically have half your army in character models.  If that is wrong then I don’t wanna be right!

Thankfully the Aeldari have a lot of cool units that are highly mobile so maybe that is enough to score mission points. You’ll have to tune in next week to find out… haha. In the second half of the show Tanya lets us know she’s getting ready to do a lore based model update to fill out her IG.  It’s kind of inspiring.

We talk Guard List design with Tanya and Red.  These are sort of self professed meme lists with a heart of gold. We break down the lists and maybe why some of the choices were made.  After that we start to get hyped for Adepticon 2025!

Guard Lists – so many choices.  Can you make bad ones?  Sure, but it is still kinda hard to when you have the combination of detachments and data slates.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

Adam had some internet issues this week so he kinda floats in and out but I’m sure that will be better next week.  We kick off taking about the sheer amount of Dorns one can take in a list and maybe why you might want to.  Don’t own 6 Rogal Dorns?  No problem, try one or two and see how you like it.

We also talk about the sweet sweet Stormlord.  It has a MASSIVE transport capacity and some dirty tricks you can pull off with it.  Tanya tells us what she’s planning.

Shining Spears are back on the menu but that is just the tip of the lance. There is so much good stuff in this Codex.  Is it too good?  That remains to be seen.  There are a lot of current builds that will certainly struggle but the meta is in a great place right now.  Will this upset the balance?

We talk about the base rules of the faction and how they are so much different than what it is today.  It’s cool.  You get a lot of tricks and Eldar are doing Eldar things is what the book feels like. The codex will reward smart players and still give a lot of flex and flow for more casual games.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

If you like a particular Craftworld style of play this book also delivers.  While a lot of the bespoke Craftworld and sub faction labels are falling to the wayside the ‘style’ of those army lists are still present and available in the codexes you remember.  That is present here as well and I love it! I’ll still be using my green, white and, thorn color scheme but it doesn’t force me into a specific play style.

The new Phoenix Lord is amazing.  I suspect that her and a small squad of Warp Spiders will be hard not to take.  It will be fun and it’s a force multiplier for some other attractive choices like Windrider Jetbikes.

Wow.  There is so much in this Codex and it is awesome.  There are clear moves to keep it balanced but it doesn’t take the power away.  Generals will be making choices when they make their army lists and then can make totally new lists with different play styles the next time. Come take a listen…

One thing is for certain – Rogal Dorn Tank Commanders are going to make a splash.  The new Krieg Special Character – Lord Marshal Drier is going to make a splash.  The Demolisher is no longer an auto include. – more take variants will be good to face off against and experiment with.

We are all really digging that.  What is best will come down to a few thing still – points and the meta.  I guess the terrain has a lot to do with it too.  Some of this stuff is either big or on big bases.  Its a lot to consider.  The cool thing is that it is a fun puzzle to solve.  How do we get to use our cool models and put together something powerful?  So many good options in this dex.

We talk largely about the new stuff and the biggest changes from what the Guard uses today.

Last week we had a catastrophic computer failure that resulted in the recording being lost and having to rebuild everything from scratch.  Very Sorry for not getting an episode out around the holiday.  This was sort of a test to make sure everything is working again and I think we did it!  Thanks a lot for the patience and we hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.

I know I mentioned the hardware failure above but I do just want to say that the cast took it in stride and I really appreciate them dedicating their time and support through the fix.  They really dedicate a lot of time to making this happen and the starts and stops we had to do while fixing everything was a big pain.

We talk about the year in this episode and look to the future, but not too far as that is next week’s show.  Paul is doing what he can to finish up a hobby project to completely open up next year for new things.  We all know what is coming…  It’s just a question of when!

The Grotmas detachments have people excited, dismayed, concerned and giddy.  What a mix of emotions for something we’re getting for free and allows us to use our toys?  So interesting.
