Forge The Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast

Sorry for the delay here but Paul was at the GW Tacoma Open this past weekend doing a little streaming.  In this episode Red gives his first looks and thoughts to the new Horus Heresy 3.0.

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

This is a surface level review on this right as we have not gotten the opportunity to play yet but we will.. Oh yes, we will.  The story driven games in one of the most evocative time periods in the lore is too hard to pass up.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

After the break we run down the Wrong Way Kids results from the America Team Championship a couple of weeks ago.  We had a blast.  We played some games, shared some stories and didn’t do too bad…

I’m really digging the Blood Angel list I’ve been playing recently.

The Hobby segment will be back next week. We have some t-shirts a really cool sticker up for sale to celebrate us being nine years deep into this show. Check them out here.

Paul speaks with Ify Nwadiwe, host of Dropout TV’s Um, Actually, writer, comedian,  actor, perform and a host of other talents about his journey into the world of Warhammer so far.  Then after that the normal crew talk about a standout unit in the Space Marine codex and what Paul is taking to an upcoming tournament.

For starters, thanks so much to Mr. Nwadiwe for taking time to sit down with me this week.  Ify has spoken openly about Warhammer in places that I didn’t expect to hear it around people that may or may not be into Warhammer and I consider that pretty dang cool and a champion for our hobby.   This includes on the various shows he hosts or is a part of like Um, Actually, Parlor Room and Nobody Asked.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

I had no idea his journey has basically just begun and doesn’t just stop at 40k.  He’s into Sigmar too.  It was a great conversation and I hope you dig it.   Catch Ify on his socials  to see what he’s up to next if you want to learn more.

After the Spotlight Segment we get back to ‘normal’ talking about the Blood Angels List Paul is taking to the ATC, speaking about the list choices and then zeroing in on one unit in particular.  The Space Marine Lt with Combi weapon. This sheet has basically every rule in the book plus a unique one.

What is the meta?  Believe it or not it is a pretty wide open field out there where much of the game is in a great spot. It comes down to some small list choices and great generalship to give you the advantage.  We talk about that thought process a little in this episode.

So much agonizing over to take a dread or not take a dread.  Take a Predator Annihilator instead!

There is some great discussion in this episode about the hows and whys one might take something in an army list for a specific format.

In the end I think you should always play what you think is the most fun but when you are trying to be efficient.. that’s another story.

Several of us were in Edmonton last weekend for an amazing Warhammer event at Game Con Canada.  We give a recap to the weekend and talk about the winning list that took home all the marbles and a trip to the finals in November.

Maulerfiends, wow.  Who would have thought.  John Lennon did… and they ended off being amazing, especially with his last round opponent almost going all the way with Chaos Daemons absolutely brimming with Great Unclean Ones.  It was a climatic showdown in the the frozen tundra (not really.. it was like 75 degrees the whole time and quite pleasant).

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

We also talk about an amazing narrative event and give some recaps of the entire weekend.  It was an amazing time and I hope we get to go back.

I know we’ve been a little sporadic the last couple of weeks but we are through traveling for a little while and should be all set and back to normal for the next few weeks.  Thanks so much for sticking with us.

Chaos Knights are hitting the scene again in a big way – as if they could be any bigger!  The core of the Knights are changing with lower OC, lower toughness but more of other stuff. Is it a good balance or are you full of Dread?

Folks with Chaos Knight armies are heavily invested in the ‘scope’ of the codex.  How many Knights do I need? How many big ones and small ones do we need?  Both Adam and I play CK and have a good time and filled with good hopes talking about the codex.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

The lower toughness and OC seems like that might be the hardest pill to swallow but there are some nice tradeoffs.

I hope you enjoyed the vendor spotlight segment from the previous episode.  Let us know as we will be looking to do more of those in the future.

Chaos is the compound in which reality is written.  And Wowzers, the 1k Sons are here and they are probably better than they have ever been before.  We take a first look at the codex and run down some absolutely amazing Dataslates and Detachments.

From Magnus to the lowly Chaos Spawn, this book is jam packed with powerful effects straight from the Eye of Terror.  1k Sons have been powerful in the past with tons of damage dealing potential and now is absolutely no different.

1k Sons get a ton of unit options which will lead to a lot of army list options.  We love that.

We talk about the brand new unit too – The Sekhetar Robots.  Will you pick them up?

It is a good time to be a chaos fanatic.  World Eaters, Death Guard, Emperor’s Children, Daemon Detachments, 1k Sons in the mix.  Wow.  Where do you start?  We have some ideas and share some army lists to get you going.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

Several different flavors of army lists..

Red actually brings 3 lists to the table. He’s been brewing for a while now and is well know for liking World Eaters.

Did your favorite build survive the codex update? It probably did but now you have a TON more options.  Some stuff is better, some stuff is different..  You let us know what you think as we run down the new Death Guard and World Eater Codexes.

Death Guard will almost certainly dominate the meta for a little bit.  They aren’t ‘too good’ but they absolutely stack up well against a lot of whats out there and there are several ways to build this army out of the new codex.  Paul plays DG and can’t wait.

Poxwalkers haven’t been a ‘thing’ in a little while but get ready.  You will see the plague hoard army in full use soon.

The next part of the show is about the World Eaters.  This army will play a little different than it has been.  That’s probably ok though as a nuanced Assault based army gets more fun to play the more you master it.  Red plays World Eaters and gives a bit of a deep dive on the things he’s discovered.

The back half of the show talks about the ATC coming up in July.  It’s a massive team tournament and one of the vanguards that started it all over here in the States.  Our team will be there and now were in the prep stages.
