Forge The Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast

A lot of folks woke up this week with some changes to their favorite detachments.  Were you one of those folks?  Some stuff stayed the same.  All the erratas aside, there is some cool new stuff going up for pre-order today.  I’ll be grabbing a set too.

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

Who doesn’t like Aeldari and Chaos Space Marine Pirates?  That aint all.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

We also look at the top 5 changes in the game right now, and one that stayed the same as an honorable inclusion.  I’m sure those Necron players are happy.  I can hear the clacking of their metal jaws now.

What do you think of the new format?

We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. They are helping bring FTN to you. Please check them out and support the organizations that support us. Discount Games Inc. offers Games Workshop products at 15% off the suggested retail at their website here. You can send an email to the owner Jay. These guys run a podcast too! Check them out.

The hobby segment is about tips you never hear in the hobby because people are afraid to admit them. Just kidding, but it sounds good.  We have some t-shirts a really cool sticker up for sale to celebrate us being nine years deep into this show. Check them out here.

We kick off this week thinking about how to write lore for  Tyranids for a personal army or whatever.  Its a neat exercise.  What do you think?  We then talk about the top five things that make a detachment great.

Tyranids… how do they work?  When you’re writing lore for an army the Tyranids normally just get tossed into the ‘we eat things and adapt’ category and forgotten about.  There has to be more there right?

Next we explore what draws us to certain detachments when all we care about is efficiency.

Shooting more when you already shoot well is high on that list.

We’re back!  It’s been a heck of a few  weeks for the FTN crew but we are back at it and bringing some reactions to the most recent preview.  We also run down the top 5 performing factions in the game right now and I promise you won’t suspect a couple of them.  Tell us if you did!

I am very sorry we have been absent for a couple of weeks.  Travel and some other stuff got in the way but are absolutely back in the saddle and this year is just getting started.

We talk about the top 5 factions in the game Meta wise this week and I have to admit I was a little surprised as well.  You may end up being also.  There are some players out there doing strong work!

We also look at the preview and get hyped about the new stuff coming out. More Chaos!

We got our hands on the new Nightbringer courtesy of Games Workshop and kick off the show talking about it.  We talk about both of the new Necron characters this week and work in some hobby talk to boot!

Nightbringer has changed but is it for the better?  Adam theorizes that it is and tells us why.

I think he is absolutely better in almost every way including this new sculpt.  It’s awesome and really seems to push the boundaries on what the company can do with one sprue.

We take a look at the rules and the model itself.  Then we talk about the Destroyer Character.  Nekrosaur Ammentar.  He is a beast!  Well, not really a Beast but you get the idea. ha!

We are back for 2026 and looking forward to an amazing year!  We take a little look back at the 2025 highlights and then cast our gaze forward to the future.  What does it hold?  What hobby projects are we just needing to get out of our systems?

A ton of codexes and content came out of the Wahammer Studio this past year and we surmise that it is the most we’ve ever seen.  It’s been a blast!

We take a look at a snapshot of the meta of what it has become and do a little forecasting.

Paul shows off a mini he did for his son in this episode so apologies if you are not following us on Youtube but you can also check out the mini on Instagram.

It looks like the very tip top of the meta was hit in these recent updates and we’ll be talking about if that was a good thing or not.  A lot of players will think so.  Some of the recent rockets to the top have had their thrusters cooled and some of the long time top finishers have been brought back down to earth, maybe.

The Aeldari have had a huge power move of theirs curtailed and this will no doubt give a much better feel to their opponents.   They are still going to be extremely strong but maybe not so ‘invisible’ like they have been up until this point.

Adeptus Mechanicus and Adeptus Soritas got hit a bit but still a LOT better than they were a few months ago, I think.

Blood Angels are once again proving to be  the best  codex in the game    Astra Militarum are going to get to live in their new detachment for a little while too without being hit.  Seems like a win for these folks!

We dive into the three new Grotmas detachments we’ve seen so far.  They Astra Militarum, Chaos  Space Marines and the Blood Angels. You know we’re excited!  Will you see these on the table?

Wow.  These detachments are great.  If we had to ‘rank’ these it seems like the Guard come out amazing and the Chaos Space Marines trailing a little bit. But what is absolutely a fact is that these detachments give you new ways to enjoy your factions and we love that!

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

The designers are really exploring the Guard Order mechanic and this looks really pushed.  It gives folks some flavor they have been longing for in the form of Commisars and Ogryn too.  What is not to love?

The CSM is all about that Battle Shock and fear causing troops, which is right on brand for a certain Legion.  The Blood Angels dip in deep to the Death Company feel.  Does this remind anyone of Flesh Tearers?  It does a little bit to me.

Pax was great, just like it is every year.  It’s so nice to see people get into Warhammer for the first time.  The Paint and Take was a HUGE hit and we don’t talk about it enough. One of the pillars of our hobby is one of the coolest activities to ever happen at conventions like these.

Thanks a lot  for being patient with us as we’ve been traveling. We should be back to it for the rest of this year and on a normal schedule. Happy Holidays!

Red, Adam and Paul were at the World Championships of Warhammer and have some stories to tell.  It was a fabulous time run by Games Workshop where players from all over the world converged on Atlanta GA to battle out to be the best of the best, a champion was crowned. The Machines Rise up!

There is an issue with the audio in this show.  I am very sorry about that.  I debated not publishing in audio format but it eventually ‘works itself’ out.  I can’t apologize enough as I take the audio quality of the show very seriously.  It was a glitch on the recording side and it is the first time it has happened with this software.  We’ll do what we can to prevent it in the future.

With that said… we have some details from the World Championship to bring you.  It was an absolute spectacular event.  I sincerely hope we get the opportunity to go do this again.  It is great to see the best players in the world battling it out at the top of their game.

We then jump into the Grand Narrative where Red gives us his take on being one of the characters in the room for the players to interact with.  He and his brother did an amazing job.  All the characters and the players did.  There were costumes EVERYWHERE!   If you like this style of games put this on your list for next year.

Ok.. If you have been listening to the show for a while you know how much Paul loves Blood Bowl.  The first part of the show is a bit of a lovefest for the new edition of the game and shouting that if you’ve never gotten into the game yet, now is the time!  In the second part of the show we talk about the new Ultramarine SUPER unit.

Blood Bowl truly stands the test of time and anyone who has ever played it loves it.  That is a FACT!  Ha!  A little sarcasm there but I definitely love it and Games Workshop was kind enough to send us a copy to review for free.  I am so glad they did because I know this will bring hours and hours of joy.

In the back half of the show we talk about the new Ultramarine super unit of absolutely beef.

We talked about them slightly in the abstract last week but now we have the rules in hand courtesy of the Warhammer Community web page.

The hobby segment is about textures and being ‘brave’ enough to use them sparingly around the models.  We also talk about creating textures where there are none and using paint/acrylics with a slight amount of texture in them to give some great effects on your models.  We show off some of them too. We have some t-shirts a really cool sticker up for sale to celebrate us being nine years deep into this show. Check them out here.
