Welcome to the longest interview in 9 years of the FotoFacts Podcast!
This Father's Day episode with the talented, outspoken photographer and PPA Voicebox Booray Perry is jammed packed with all the thing that makes you think.  The theme was all about weddings, but with any casual conversation, lots of Alice in Wonderland rabbit holes appear and we all jumped right in!
The topics range from weddings, bar & bat mitzvah, Fujifilm, the Professional Photographers of America, ImagingUSA, and a wide variety of sidetracks.
A long time friend of the show, Booray wasn’t always a professional photographer. He spent 20 years as a radio personality, entertaining people worldwide on satellite radio while performing weekends as a comedian in Dallas, TX. After retiring from radio, he launched Booray Perry Photography (he had a darkroom when he was 14 years old). Now living and working in Tampa, FL shooting everything under the sun from headshots to weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.
Booray is also the co-host of the popular PhotoBomb Podcast with Gary Hughes.  Be sure to check out his work online, follow his social media, and listen to his podcast.

  • Landscape Oils to Fashion Pixels with Marty Strecker

    Send us Fan Mail

Wrapping up our FASHION themed month with a long-distance interview record with Australian photographer Marty Strecker.
This traditionally trained oil painter of landscapes talks about how the transition to using the camera more for creation versus canvas reference helped him become more outgoing after discovering people.  Marty enjoys learning about the person and works hard to bring forth traits into the image created.  He eloquently observes the tribe creation power needed for fashion shoots where the creation is a focused goal that many times yields an unexpected result if allowed to experiment.
Interestingly, his training as a painter helped Marty visualize light first before moving to the still camera giving him an edge during the learning process.  We all know the importance of knowing light but seeing light... that's an area to aspire towards.
Marty's personal passion - Project Behind The Line - showcases the juxtaposition of the lives, passion, and individuality of those who work on the front-line of health care and first responders.  Beginning mid-2019, this project is on point with the current world's pandemic and we are all in awe and grateful for these heroes' sacrifices.

Strap in tight for some FASHION #TRUTHS with world-renowned photographer David Leslie Anthony on a live phone interview from New Orleans.  David is currently based in Chicago working around the globe and we are fortunate he had time to share some insights into this industry.

Fair warning, this episode isn't for the faint of heart or sensitive creatives. David lays down some solid advice and harsh reality checks that might be a hard pill to swallow.  This is the authentic nature of our podcast vision and casual conversation style.

Be sure to check David out online and follow him.  You will be impressed!

  • No Facebook No Bother with Craig Stidham

    Send us Fan Mail

We are still working through our FASHION theme this month but this episode with Craig Stidham quickly became a Capture One Q&A interview.  The twins were very ok with this since Robert has fully switched and Jim is Capture One curious.  We even did more questions after the show! LOL

Craig is a commercial fashion shooter based in Amarillo Texas that uses that flair to bring his high school senior clients to a much higher level of artistry.  Classically trained at Art Institute in Houston, he believes in recognizing your weak points and then work on that to progress in the field.

If you are wanting to get your hands dirty, eat well and rub elbows with fashion industry leaders in a small, casual setting in west Texas, then contact Craig about his annual May workshop.

  • The Steamer and Google Machine with Shevaun Williams

    Send us Fan Mail

Meet Shevaun Williams, the self-professed photographer Diva, ruling Oklahoma from her studio throne on Norman's Main Street. Our listeners are in for a real treat and a crazy surprise that happened at the end of the interview.  We are not spoiling the moment here.

This craftswoman spends over 80% of her time shooting the commercial genre and the balance creating fashion stories.  Shevaun deeply believes in promoting the value of photography by charging separately for the capture creation and licensing.

She mentions an important element of fashion photography, often overlooked, that forces the shooter to define, refine, and develop the story of the product.  You must create the narrative of the clothes and/or brand.  That product rarely is the pretty girl in the cloths.
Fashion is 12 o'clock high noon... aim for 11:59 or 12:01 and you will miss it.  Your job is to get it right on set.

Shevaun's favorite advice for upcoming fashion photographers is simple but poignant. "Get a steamer" and study the fashion world.  She mentions several to follow, nationally acclaimed and local talent.  Get your notepad ready!

Be sure to follow her online:

She loves emails - Let her know if you enjoyed the podcast and ask any questions about her upcoming fashion workshop in Norman, OK.  Offline, she mentioned also organizing a model skills building class.

  • Authentic Portraits Fashion with Charlie Neuenschwander

    Send us Fan Mail

The month of May is dedicated to FASHION photographers and to lead off the charge we start with Charlie Neuenschwander.  This late bloomer to the craft has already left a well-crafted mark on the industry and we are positive you've seen his work gracing the pages of 405 Magazine.
Charlie's images are well known in many agencies and professional models, including one of our favorite celebrities, Connie Franklin.  His "truth in art" approach consistently delivers authentic portraits for his clients that regularly blur the definition of fashion styling.  Charlie's ability to convey an emotion in the image captured is never finished until properly paired with the right post-processing treatment, created specifically for that image and never from a cookie-cutter preset demonstrates his artesian dedication.
He is a dedicated family man, just as comfortable wielding a Canon 5d MkIII on set as he is roughhousing with the kids or watching the Mandalorian curled up on the couch.  Charlie is an Oklahoma renaissance man.

  • No Autopilot with Don Risi

    Send us Fan Mail

Continuing with our EDITORIAL theme for April, the twins speak with Don Risi, a contributor to 405 Magazine and 405 Homes.
We chat about his transition from OCU instructor and dance photographer to shooting several stories in the 405 Magazine sphere along with the gear he uses to get the job done.  Don's best advice for newcomers to this genre is getting a mentor and, of course, like others before him, James Pratt's name keeps coming up as the instigator of editorial photographers in Oklahoma City.  Maybe James can lead a weekend-long workshop on this interesting topic of photography.
Listen to this episode interview and you should get one point very clear... Overcome your fear!
