This week, following our monthly theme of EDITORIAL, we interview Ryan West from Go West Productions on his climb to fame with local publications like Oklahoma Living and Curbside Chronicles.
Coming from a creative family, Ryan got infected by photography from his father during nature hikes.  He assured us that since the whole family is involved in the craft, Ryan has no extra money for bad habits.
Leaning on the advice of James Pratt, Ryan spends a considerable amount of time practicing visual storytelling in preparation for assignments from editors.  Forcing yourself to shoot the story, will help any budding photographer develop the basic skills to get chosen for a magazine editorial.  Ryan also shared his passion for conservation-focused captures and the dream to travel the world using his images to bring light nature and wildlife issues.

This April we start on the Editorial Photography theme with James Pratt discussing recent work for the magazine cover.  Oklahoma Living serves Oklahoma’s rural electric cooperative members with information about their local electric co-ops, affordable electricity, and Oklahoma’s rural lifestyle.

James discusses his approach to this story and how to "work the subject" with various angles in different scenes for the editors to have a choice for best placement within the story, as well as, cover the guidelines of the front cover for maximum impact.  He talks about his choice in gear and you will find a few hidden gems on James' choices between Sony and Nikon systems.

The episode was recorded on Zoom with video so our listeners can enjoy James walking through the shoot images on his Lightroom catalog gallery.  Be sure to check out our YouTube channel or the FotoFacts Podcast Facebook page and watch the video.  The links are below.

This episode was pushed out as a Facebook LIVE event on the FotoFacts Podcast Facebook page and then the audio clipped here for our regular listeners.  We were trying something a little different for interaction during the "Safer at Home" order for Oklahoma with the Coronavirus situation.
We must say that this interview was a blast and hope everyone enjoyed the candor, humor, and personality of Miranda Hodge from Bevographer.  We could detail all the things we mentioned in the episode but listening to it will get you a better understanding of how well photographers are coping in these difficult times.

Hop into your favorite PJs, pour a tall glass of your favorite beverage and get really for a great time.

The Soul Mate Brothers chat with Yana Dyachkova, a Russian engineer climber, model and aspiring photographer about how to learn the craft.  She will be attending the Bedford Camera & Video PhotoCon at the end of the month in hopes of lifting her skill set higher than she can climb.  Be sure to reach out to her during the event and welcome her into our visual image creator social circles.
On a cool side note, Yana plans to live the Van Life after graduation in a vehicle layout she designed.  We mention she should reach out to our famous friend of the podcast, Mandy Lea for pointers.

February is MARKETING Themed but in this episode, we go all wild with Mat Miller.  The topics change constantly since Matt has a wide range of interests and experiences.  He is not afraid to share with the twins and our listeners.  We had an audience in the room, Mat's girlfriend Mellisa and the grand puppy Roger.  Both seemed to listen to the stories but probably hear these several times in the past.
We were shocked by his UFO beliefs but you can't deny his ability to film and create visual art thought the creative process Mat will share during PhotoCon.

It's February and another episode following our theme of Marketing.  This week with chat with Lezlie Swink from Swink Social Co on how social media should be a part of your marketing plan.
Lezlie hits us hard with some tips for the best places for visual artists to be present - Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Who knew hashtags were that important?
Jim and I wondering how many of our listeners are creating strategic marketing plans for their social media profiles.  Listening to Lezlie makes me feel like we need more help to reach our audience and drive traffic to the website.
Be sure to follow the discussion on our Facebook page and hopefully Lezlie can keep us straight in the comments.
