Torah Portion "'תרומה/Terumah" which means "Contribution/Heave Offering" delivered on February 20, 2021.This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 25:1-27:19 and begins, “And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, 'Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, that they take up a contribution for Me. From everyone whose heart moves him you shall take up My contribution.' "This week's Torah portion is “Terumah,” and we learn contributions and donations from it. The people of Israel are in exile, having left Egypt but not yet in the Land, and HaShem now gives instructions for building His Tabernacle, in order that He live among His people. Pastor Richard teaches how to be exalted, to be lifted, to rise (donation) and how it’s not about the donation, it's about the donor and the humility in his heart.There are three things that go into the making of the Tabernacle. First we have the materials that are used. Second we have the metals that are to be used, and lastly we have the oil for the light. Pastor Richard teaches about how the clothes we wear are representative of the one wearing them, and here the linen and wool represent the character of the Tabernacle. Likewise, the metals, the brass (made with copper), silver and gold represent the people of Israel and where they are in their walk with HaShem. The metals as well as the people start off unrefined as copper, then they are ready to be refined as silver, and then they achieve their goodness and purity, as gold is pure and of high quality, which shows that they can withstand any test!Pastor Richard teaches about the vegetative nature and the animal nature. He explains how these two natures give an understanding of the oil for the lighting. Torah Portion "'משפטים/Mishpatim" which means "Right Rulings/Judgments" delivered on February 13, 2021. This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 21:1-24:18 and begins, “These are the right-rulings which you are to set before them:"This week's Torah portion teaches how to judge, rule and govern. In last week's Torah portion, Pastor Richard showed how authority was to be established to rope/tie together the people of Israel. Now that authority has been established, Israel can be prepared to enter the Land, and not defile it.Pastor Richard shows where the sages state that the world stands on 3 things: Torah, Temple Service and Acts of righteousness. He compared the Torah as the authority against the code of Hammurabi, which was the ruling system (legal system) in the middle east at the time of the exodus from Egypt. The code of Hammurabi was established during the period of the Tower of Babel. He discussed verse 23:19, which states not to boil a young goat in its mother's milk. This was a pagan practice that was used to bless the crops in hopes of producing a better harvest. Israel was not to do this pagan practice; instead they were to give honor and glory to HaShem only for blessing the land and the harvest.Pastor Richard concludes by showing us Messiah Yeshua as the angel who will be sent on HaShem's behalf to guard you in the Torah, and prepare us for the promised Land. He uses Psalms 24:8 to show us "who is the King of glory?" Only HaShem can pardon the felonies that we commit. Torah Portion "'יתרו/Yitro" which means "Excellency" delivered on February 6, 2021. This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 18:1-20:26 and begins, “And Yithro, the priest of Miḏyan, Mosheh’s father-in-law, heard of all that Elohim had done for Mosheh and for Yisra’ĕl His people, that Hashem had brought Yisra’ĕl out of Mitsrayim." This week's Torah portion discusses how to function as a body, as a nation. Yitro taught Moses how to establish leadership, selecting men who were knowledgeable in the Torah. Yitro's name means His abundance, His excess, as well as cord and rope. The cord and the rope represents the leadership and how a righteous leadership will join the nation of Israel together.Pastor Richard teaches how to unite as a nation in righteousness, how the leadership must remain righteous shepherds, or the result will bring chaos to the people. If the cords (leadership) are removed the people (sheep) will become scattered doing what they feel is right in their own eyes. Righteous leadership will always use the Torah as the standard, that's why they are righteous.Pastor Richard uses John 15:13 and 1 John 3:16 to show how we are responsible to each other; for the sake of others we are to deal righteously with one another. The leadership must live out the Torah and show the people by example. They must resemble Moses in all their ways; they must be connected to Moses. All virtue must be found in the leaders who will judge the people.Pastor Richard gives clarification of the Sabbath, what we can and can not do. Having this understanding will unite us to the Jewish people who have kept the Sabbath for thousands of years. There are four basic laws and Pastor Richard clarifies each of the four, giving the scripture verses and reasons why we can or can not do what we want to do.Pastor Richard concludes with "HaShem's work is considered worship to Him." HaShem's work is not considered work! Only do God's work as found in John 7:23-24. This teaching has amazing insight and gives understanding to why righteous leaders are needed so the people can walk in righteousness and not in chaos. Torah Portion "'בשלח/Beshalach" which means "He Sent" delivered on January 30, 2021.This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 13:17-17:16 and begins, “And it came to be, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that Elohim did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, though that was nearer, for Elohim said, 'Lest the people regret when they see fighting, and return to Mitsrayim.' "In this week's Torah portion Pastor Richard teaches about how the book of Exodus concerns the redemption of the people of Israel. The book of Exodus is a book of fulfilled prophecies. Pastor Richard teaches about Pharaoh and how he sent away the people of Israel. He had been their King, their husband, and by sending them away he divorced them, setting them free. Now the people will make a covenant marriage to HaShem, but first they must be cleansed.Pastor Richard explains that today the pharaoh is satan and that in the next exodus satan will divorce and set free the people of Israel. Hosea 2:14-17 alludes to the first exodus and in that day alludes to the next exodus, Rev.12:6.The people were afraid when Pharaoh followed them. Torah Portion "'וארא/Va'Era" which means "And I appeared" delivered on January 16, 2021.This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 6:2-9:35 and begins, “And Elohim spoke to Mosheh and said to him, “I am יהוה. And I appeared to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ, as Ěl Shaddai. And by My Name, יהוה, was I not known to them?"In this week's Torah portion Pastor Richard addresses authority. HaShem changed the authority of Egypt first by making Moses an authority over the Pharaoh and second by destroying the gods of Egypt. The theme for this parasha is the process of redemption. The first step in the process of redemption is to change the authority that is over our lives. We need to replace the former authority by establishing HaShem as the authority.In a truthful redemption we must first conquer the ungodly, worldly authority and replace it with Moses (the Torah) and with Yeshua (Messiah). This is addressed in 1 Peter 4:1-4, living for a new Master,Pastor Richard shows the first seven plagues and the Egyptian gods that were destroyed in each of these plagues. He asked if the world has been guilty of worship to false gods? Who do we put our trust in? Do we put our trust in the worldly government, modern medicine, earth worship (oil, gas, etc.), money and possessions, do we put our trust in worldly books of wisdom? HaShem is removing these gods from His people, He is striking the gods of this age.Pastor Richard shows that in Gematria Moshe equals 345 and "echad" is 13. Torah Portion "'שמות/Shemot" which means "Names" delivered on January 9, 2021.This week's portion covers Exodus/Shemot 1:1-6:1 and begins, “And these are the names of the children of Yisra’ĕl who came to Mitsrayim with Ya‛aqoḇ, each one with his household:"This week we begin the second book of the Torah: Exodus. Last week we ended the book of Genesis with Joseph and his close relationship with Pharaoh. Now we open Exodus with a new Pharaoh who didn't know Joseph. This new Pharaoh is establishing his name by bringing a new governmental system and things are about to change for the people of HaShem. This is much like our governmental system today and the changes we face with each new election. The reason for the change is the character of the new leaders. This explanation gives a much better understanding to the name of the portion (and book) “Shemot,” which means names. Names represent the character traits of the person. This new Pharaoh is not in a close relationship with HaShem's people, and in fact he wants to destroy them.Breaking the word “Shemot” apart, Pastor Richard shows that “shem” means redemption and “mot” means death. In redemption something must change in our character, bad traits must die. The second epistle to the Corinthians (11:3) teaches simplicity and purity of devotion of the Messiah. These are the character traits that we must embrace. We must become free from pretense and hypocrisy, not self seeking, the openness of our heart manifesting itself by generosity.Pastor Richard gives the purpose of the first redemption and how we are still under this first redemption even today. He teaches about rejection: the rejection of Joseph, the rejection of Moses and the rejection of our Messiah. These examples of rejection are from their own brothers, and we too will be in error if we think we will not be rejected by those around us when we act and judge in the righteousness that Hashem teaches us.Exodus 2:16-19 speaks about the seven daughters of Yitro, priest of Midyan. Torah Portion "'ויחי/Vayechi" which means "And he lived" delivered on January 2, 2021. This week's portion covers Genesis/Beresheet 47:28-50:26 and begins, “And Ya‛aqoḇ lived in the land of Mitsrayim seventeen years. So the length of Ya‛aqoḇ’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years." Pastor Richard, in setting the foundation for this parasha, posed the question about how we define life. Next he dove into the Biblical meaning of the name of the parasha and its connection with being redeemed. We need to understand Biblical redemption as part of the Redemption of HaShem and that our life, decisions, goals, endeavors should be different as redeemed people. This includes denying things of the past and worldly desires. Our flesh wages war on our spirit.Genesis 50:15-21 are the verses of this parasha that we focus on in this teaching. We see that with Ya'akov’s death Yosef’s brothers were afraid of retribution from Yosef for their past sins and the wrong they had done to him. Pastor continued to expound on Biblical forgiveness with emphasis on the fact that we forgive for our own sake, understanding that we cannot keep the commandments of HaShem with unforgiveness in our hearts. Yosef’s brothers were no longer trying to justify their actions which was evident by their statement calling themselves his “servants” and falling down before him. They were scared but not seeking to be exempt from punishment. Yosef had already “lifted” up forgiveness a long time ago and had given it to HaShem. Pastor concluded with the importance that with repentance we stop looking back (like Lot’s wife) and we apply the teachings of our Messiah and Rabbi Hillel, not doing what is despicable to another for this is the whole of the Torah. Torah Portion "'ויגש/Vayigash" which means "And he drew near" delivered on December 26, 2020.This week's portion covers Genesis/Beresheet 44:18-47:27 and begins, “And Yehuḏah came near to him and said, “O my master, please let your servant speak a word in my master’s hearing, and do not let your displeasure burn against your servant, for you are like Pharaoh."In this week's Torah portion Pastor Richard gives insight into the lineage of Joseph and of David. There was a greater purpose in the events that happened to Joseph, events that were for the good of all the nations, even the world. By Joseph being the Viceroy in Egypt he was able to keep Israel from perishing in the famine. Even Joseph said that it was Hashem that sent him into exile.Pastor Richard teaches that hatred between brothers produces famine. This is an interesting concept because oppression brings people together. Pastor Richard also teaches that there are times when Hashem tells His people to surrender to Egypt in order to get help. Sometimes we are told to settle in exile and remain strong in our faith. This can humble His people. This can teach us to descend from our high position and be humbled. Then when Hashem calls us to ascend we come up with a humble heart.Have you ever wondered about the difference between the names Israel and Jacob since the name is used in different ways? Pastor Richard gives clarification to this. He also explains the general mission of the Mashiach ben Yosef. This is a fascinating teaching giving much understanding to miracles, humility, staying focused, and righteous unification. We hope this teaching will bring you Shalom.This week our Haftorah teaching is delivered by Brother Mark from Ezekiel 37:15-28, and the New Covenant E-drash is delivered by Pastor Richard from John 10:11-19.We hope and pray that you find blessing in our teachings. Torah Portion "'מקץ/Miketz" which means "At the end" delivered on December 19, 2020.This week's portion covers Genesis/Beresheet 41:1-44:17 and begins, “And it came to be, at the end of two years’ time, that Pharaoh had a dream, and saw him standing by the river,"Pastor Richard teaches that this Torah portion is based on Amos 8:11 which reads "Behold days are coming declares the Lord God when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord."The Torah was given so we may have life. So how does this tie into the dreams of the Pharaoh and the 7 years of plenty and the 7 years of famine? Pastor Richard teaches that when Joseph was elevated to the position of 2nd in command, the Vizier of Egypt, he had control of most of the positions in government. During the 7 years of plenty he went throughout Egypt making converts for HaShem. By following HaShem's plan of converting people to return to HaShem, the land produced abundantly providing the food which was needed for the 7 years of famine.Pastor Richard also explains about the tithes of 1/5 and the tenth passing under the rod, and how this is temple language. When the people of Egypt suffered hunger in the 7 years of famine why did the people go to the Pharaoh instead of going to Joseph?
