As the season of Advent begins, there is no better way to prepare ourselves for Christmas that by making a good confession. However, many people struggle with fear and shame and stay away from confession. Father looks at the phenomenon of shame and encourages us to overcome it to receive the Lord's mercy this Advent.

Notice in this Sunday's gospel that Jesus is judging the nations. In biblical parlance the "nations" mean the gentiles, those who are not part of God's chosen people.

Recognizing this distinction, Father Sibley looks at what our attitude towards non-Christians ought to be.
