It is our teaching that when the Word of God is proclaimed at liturgy, we are not remembering something God once said.  God is speaking to us live, now, through these graced words.

it stands to reason that Jesus’s first public “sign” takes place at a wedding feast,  for Jesus himself is the marriage of divinity and humanity.

It is a mythic river that Jesus wades into, the Jordan, which flows under the same sky where a mighty wind was sweeping over the waters at the dawn of Creation.

 For Luke, “being lost” is like “being dead,”  and “being found” is like “being made alive.”  This is stated most dramatically at the end of the parable of the prodigal son, “your brother was dead and is alive; he was lost and is found”.

It is to shepherds that this Good News is announced:  
“Do not be afraid;  for behold,  I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people."  
While the emperor says "ALL the world,"  the shepherds proclaim "For ALL the people."
