Season 2, Episode 5: Guest Joey from Affable Chat Part 2: George Romero's failed age discrimination educational film, the Amusement Park, 1975 (Lincoln Maazel)

• Joey from Affable Chat reviews a second movie with me, the Amusement Park
• this production is a bizarre failed public service educational film commissioned by the Lutheran Service Society of Western Pennsylvania
• George Romero went off the rails and added so many horror elements to the film that it was deemed unusable and shelved. The production was rediscovered in 2017
• the Amusement park is supposed to represent society in general, in which seniors face tremendous discrimination
• the sheer number of age discrimination episodes in the movie is overkill and it's even complete with a biker gang to beat up 🤕 old people (similar to Dawn of the Dead in which the biker gang beats up zombies)
• Could this have been a joke? We'd love to know!
• One thing is for sure. It has definite similarities to the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That. Both show the downsides of aging with no benefits (ie. the characters do not become wiser or more intelligent with age)
• By the end of this film, one wants to practice age discrimination
• Frances gave this a thumbs up. Joey gave it an OK Boomer!

Season 2, Episode 5: Guest Joey from Affable Chat Part 1: Night of the Living Dead 1968, George Romero (Judith O'Dea, Duane Jones, Russell Streiner, Karl Hardman, Marilyn Eastman, Judith Ridley, Tony Todd, Kyra Schon)

• Introducing Joey from Affable Chat. They just celebrated their 4-year anniversary
• Joey advised & reviewed movies for the chicks at Blockbuster. Now he's expanded
• Night of the Living Dead play-by-play
• BLM-issues tie into the ending of this movie
• Zombie invasion may mirror the plight of the Vietnamese during the Vietnam war
• Progressive casting. Romero was ahead of his time
• This movie succeeds  due to the conflict between the characters, not necessarily due to the monsters themselves. The zombies are peripheral
• Effects weren't bad for such a low budget and for 1968
• This movie is in the public domain

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this episode: Joey chats about George Romero's failed age-discrimination PSA: the Amusement Park (1975).
