listen to an interview with Suzanne Jackson, Legal Counsel at Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, who offers an overview & legal focused perspectives on the land rights struggle of the Lubicon Lake Nation, a long standing indigenous struggle for justice.

Suzanne places the history of the Lubicon Lake Nation within the context of the ongoing moves by Canadian government officials, specifically the recently renamed Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, to subvert responsibility around existing land claims of indigenous communities, like the Lubicon, which present serious questions about the future of many lands that are the focus of extractive industry corporations seeking to construct mines and / or to exploit oil / gas reserves.

finally this interview provides a general critique of the distance between the discourse regarding indigenous land rights being pronounced by the Liberal government in Canada vs. actual steps on policy, or toward resolving existing indigenous land claims and public grievances.
