  • The Mode of Baptism
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: The Mode of Baptism
    Subtitle: Christian Baptism
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 5/28/2017
    Bible: Acts 8:26-40
    Length: 50 min.

Overview: Baptism is not essential to salvation as the case of the thief on the cross teaches us. He knew the baptism of the Spirit but not the baptism of water. Still although baptism is not essential, it is not optional. We don't want to become a one-ordinance church where we just practice the Lord's Supper. We have looked at who should be baptized. Next we want to look at how we should be baptized and why.----There are three traditional modes of baptism----- immersion--- pouring--- sprinkling----To understand the mode to be used, we consider----1. The water used in baptism--Acts 8-36 - -Here is water---Water is used in baptism----2. The word used for baptism--Act 8-36 - -what does hinder me to be baptized----The word is a transliteration of the Greek word----2a. outside the Bible--It means to immerse, submerge or bathe. It is used for a ship that is baptized in the battle----2b. in the Greek OT translation--The word is used to state that Naaman dipped himself in the Jordan. It is used in Isaiah 21-4 as a figure of speech -affrighted- to describe someone who is overwhelmed in the emotion of fear.----2c. in the New Testament--It is used to describe the baptizing of individuals -i.e. John baptized because there was much water-. But there are places where it is used figuratively. Mark 7-3 uses the word for washing cups and pots. It is also used in Gethsemane where Christ asks his disciples if they can drink of the cup and be baptized with the baptism he is baptized with. The Lord is going to be immersed in an experience of suffering.----Lastly we consider why we should be baptized--1. principled obedience to Christ--2. public allegiance to Christ--3. personal benefit

  • The Biblical Doctrine of Sin
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

Title: The Biblical Doctrine of Sin
    Subtitle: The Book of Romans
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 5/28/2017
    Bible: Romans 3:9-19
    Length: 47 min.

Overview: This passage deals with 5 words related to sin-----1. Humanity--Sin affects all of humanity. -Romans 5-12-. Sin came into the world before there was any Jew or Gentile. There are a multitude of objections to this. If you reject the fact that you sinned when Adam sinned, you will also have to reject Christ's work that saves us. Sin is an oppression on top of us.----2. Depravity--Our depravity is total. Total depravity has been misunderstood. It doesn't refer to how deep we are in sin but how broadly sin affects us. What does sin do to the human condition---- The mind is darkened--- The will is enslaved--- The emotions are broken----3. Inability--We are not able to do good or please God. No good deed can give us salvation. We are not saved because of our morality but by God's grace. We are unable to fix the problem of sin for ourselves or others.----4. Iniquity--- Our depravity works out in our words--- Our depravity works out in our actions----5. Guilty--We are worthy of God's wrath and guilty before God.----The good news in the blackness of our humanity is that there is hope for all who come to trust in God.

  • The Subjects Of Baptism
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: The Subjects Of Baptism
    Subtitle: Christian Baptism
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 5/21/2017
    Bible: Acts 8:26-40; Matthew 28:16-20
    Length: 58 min.

Overview: Baptism is part of the Lord's work. The church's ministry involves the practice of Trinitarian baptism. We hold an open position meaning members and ministers differ on the subject and mode of baptism. Some believe in paedo-baptism -infant baptism- and others hold to credo-baptism -baptism on personal confession of faith-. There has not been uniformity on this issue in Reformed circles. Being open does not mean we believe in baptismal regeneration as that is a false teaching. A danger in being open is that we put the issue of baptism aside. So we have those who have never grappled with the truth and end up with people taking the Lord's Supper who have never been baptized. Every New Testament church is a baptist church because we must practice baptism. The open position does not mean the minister is to hide his own view. It does not mean he is obligated to violate his own conscience. If you do not agree, you don't have a right to abuse each other. We hold our view with respect and courtesy toward each other. So the question is who should the church baptize- believers only- or believers and their children- This message argues for the credo-baptist position----Reasons for holding to credo-baptism--1. It is a principle enshrined in the Great Commission.--Mat 28-19--2. It is a pattern exemplified in the book of Acts.--Every reference to baptism shows belief and conversion--Acts 2-41- 8-12-13- 22-16- 16-31-34--3. Faith is an explicit prerequisite for baptism.--Acts 8-36-37 --If thou believest...thou mayest----4. Baptism is a parallel to Old Testament circumcision--Forgiveness can be known without ritual. Baptism like circumcision never brings someone into the covenant

  • Seeking the Lord
A new MP3 sermon from Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

    Title: Seeking the Lord
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 5/14/2017
    Bible: Acts 1:4
    Length: 46 min.

Overview: In this message, we look at aspects of seeking the Lord for the Spirit----1. The precept--The command is to not depart from Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father. Wait sometimes denotes inactivity, but we see activity. They wait in the context of prayer. These all continued with prayer and supplication -Acts 1-14, 2-1-. God commands us to pray. He can move where he wants of course, but the usual practice is to send the Spirit in answer to prayer----2. The place--It is the place where God is about to work. God often stirs the hearts of those in the place where He is about to work----3. The people--They are mentioned 1-14. There is a community in prayer. Prayer is not just for emergencies. Both men and women are to pray. The prayer meeting is a place for all to come to seek the face of God----4. The promise--This promise of the Spirit occurs throughout the Scriptures -Acts 2-17, Isaiah 44-3-4-. Prayer is pleading the promise of God. Prayer is not a place for imagining things. Our prayers need a biblical foundation. Prayer is saying to God- Do what you said you would do. The promise of the Father has been purchased by the blood of Christ.----5. The patience--He says they should wait. This does not mean inactivity as was said earlier, but it does speak of perseverance. Men ought always to pray and not to faint. Continue to go to the throne of grace with patience and perseverance. God avenges the elect who cry out to him day and night.----6. The power--The power will come upon you. The power is seen in confident preaching and conversion. The promise was seen and sudden.

Paul states the false hope of the Jews -2-17-20---- a false confidence in the pedigree of their religion--- a false confidence in the privilege of the revelation that they enjoyed----2. Paul exposes the false hope of the Jews----3. Paul contrasts the false hope of the Jews to the true hope----Do you believe you could die tonight---Do you believe you will face judgement if you die tonight---What are you resting in-

  • The Pastor As An Evangelist

Title: The Pastor As An Evangelist
    Subtitle: The Pastor's Job Description
    Speaker: Dr. Stephen Pollock
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 5/7/2017
    Bible: 2 Corinthians 5
    Length: 50 min.

Overview: God has his church on this earth that they might be evangelists to the world. The ministry of the word involves the function of evangelism.----1. The pastor is to do the work of evangelism--Some people believe the duty of the pastor is only to teach the saints. The pastor should teach the saints, but he should also bring the gospel to unsaved sinners. -2 Timothy 4-5- A pastor must do every aspect of his ministry. Evangelism is included in a pastor's ministry and without evangelism, a pastor's ministry is not complete.----2. The pattern of evangelism -2 Cor 4- 2,5---2a. it involves the work of presentation--Fundamental to the work of evangelism is the presentation of truth. Gospel preaching must be both orthodox and doctrinal. We are not to water down the gospel. In our age, the church works much on people's emotions, but neglects people's minds.----2b. it involves the work of persuasion -2 Cor 5-11----Knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.- This implies that people in the world are wrong. People may accuse us of being arrogant, but there truth is there is only one name under heaven by which they can be saved. A preacher is to try to change the minds of the unsaved. We need to be thoughtful in our approach and do all we can to change people's minds. Two opposing Gods cannot be right.----2c. it involves the work of pleading -2 Cor 5-20----We pray you...be ye reconciled to God.- Preaching is not a mere presentation----3. The place of evangelism -2 Cor 5-10---A pastor is to preach where people are. This includes everyday public places and also the church.----4. The purpose of evangelism--The saving of souls should be the center and focus of evangelism.

    Date: 5/7/2017
    Bible: Romans 2:16
    Length: 47 min.

Overview: 1. God's judgement is inescapable -2-1---Some men and women believe they can escape the judgement of God through self judgment. They think they are not as bad as certain people. This is hypocrisy. Many sins are inside of us.----2. God's judgement is inclusive--It is unavoidable and every person will stand before God in the last day.----3. God's wrath is impeccable--There will be no flaws in God's judgement. He never gets any judgements wrong. Humans make mistakes in judging -i.e. a parent judging their child-. God's judgment is according to works.----4. God's wrath is impartial -2-11---God judges us by the same standard. That standard is the law of God. Even unbelievers have the law of God written in the hearts. God writes it on everyone's heart. So God judges us all by that standard.

Overview: We all have problems because we live in a world that is broken by the fall. Both believers and unbelievers face various trials. However, all unbelievers have a great problem they live under. They abide under the wrath of God. The gospel is not just about God's love. The main reason for the gospel is God's wrath.----1. God's wrath is a proper response--God's wrath is fair, reasonable and righteous because of man's sin.--- the sinner is guilty of willful ignorance--- the sinner is guilty of willful idolatry -1-23---- the sinner is guilty of willful iniquity -1-18, 30-----2. God's wrath is a present revelation -1-18---How does he reveal his wrath- One of the ways God's wrath is presently revealed is in the reality of divine abandonment.----3. God's wrath is a pressing reality
