Overview: How does God reveal in his will the truth of salvation- By grace alone, through faith alone, and in the work of Christ alone. Faith is the activity whereby we receive all of God's promises. Personal salvation is the gift of God and it must be received by us through the empty hands of faith.----Abraham is the pattern of belief. ----1. Abraham's faith was personal----2. Abraham's faith was practiced----3. Abraham's faith persevered----We must examine ourselves against this pattern of Abraham's belief.

    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 7/2/2017
    Bible: Joshua 4
    Length: 38 min.

Overview: In Joshua 3 and 4, we are reading about a miracle. We are seeing the power of God in stopping the waters of the Jordan when the banks overflowed. The waters stood in a heap and the Israelites crossed over on dry ground. We are led to only a supernatural explanation for this. This was a necessary miracle. It had to take place in God's redemptive purposes. God through the miraculous is bringing His people into their promised redemption. Why did God perform this miracle- God used this miracle as a message. This can be seen from references in these chapters-----Joshua 3-7 - -that they may know---Joshua 4-21-22 - -When your children shall ask...then ye shall let your children know-----As there was a message for the Israelites in this miracle, so there is a message for all of God's people down through history. We don't live in a day of miracles as the Israelites did but we do serve a God of miracles who is working out His wonderful purposes through the gospel. The message in this miracle is as follows-----1. God would have the people experience the miracle by the obedience of faith.--2. God would have the people learn from the miracle--3. God would have the faith of his people strengthened by this miracle--4. God would have his people remember the miracle

    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua

    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 6/25/2017
    Bible: Joshua 3:3-5
    Length: 41 min.

Overview: We have promises from God -likeness to Christ and building of the church-. Sometimes when we get promises, we do nothing. We know we are going to get something so there is nothing for us to do or so we think. When it comes to the promises of God, we are to do. In this message, we look at our personal responsibility----1. There are instructions to the Lord's people----1a. Follow Christ -3-3---Joshua gives the instruction to follow the ark of the covenant. The ark was a symbol of the presence of God. It was provided to show how God would save people from their sins. The picture of the ark is a picture of Christ. The gold points toward deity. The shittim wood is a sturdy, incorruptible wood and symbolizes the humanity of Christ. The gold and wood are brought together but not mixed just like the deity and humanity of Christ. Those who go on with God follow Christ. They remove from their place and go after the ark. They are converted, contrite -there shall be a space- and consecrated.----1b. Sanctify yourselves -3-5---God can set people apart but they also are to set themselves apart. We believe the Spirit moves where he wants but we also believe we are to forsake sin and obey God. God works in the context of holy living. We are to purify ourselves -2 Tim 2-21-. Churches are concerned with liberty rather than purity. We should be concerned that our dress and the devices we use promote purity.----2. There is a response required of the Lord's people--Joshua told the people to follow a box into a river and all would be well. Would we have done that- We look back and say of course we would. But what if we were there- It might be a different story.

Overview: Rahab's faith is spoken of in the New Testament -Heb 11-31, James 2-24-25-. In this message, we look at the faith of Rahab the harlot as seen in this Old Testament passage. This is what we see in Joshua concerning Rahab's faith-----1. The expression of her faith -2-11---She made a statement of faith- -for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.-----2. The entrance of her faith -2-11---Faith came by hearing the word of God- -And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt,-----3. The entreaty of her faith -2-12-13---She asks for mercy- -Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token------4. The evidence of her faith----4a. She confesses her confidence---for the Lord your God, he is God- -2-11-----4b. She saves the spies--A Gentile pagan is seen being strong and courageous. While there are questions about her not telling the truth, Heb 11 and James 2 make it clear this is a woman who stood on the Lord's side----4c. She obeys the orders--It seemed pointless to let down the cord, but she obeyed. It was the means to save her and her family. Trust in the promise of God and obey the word of God to believe and you will find safety----4d. She lives with the Lord's people -Joshua 6-25---This Gentile pagan woman was in the genealogy of the Savior----Faith alone in Christ alone and to God be glory alone

    Subtitle: The Book of Joshua

Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - AM
    Date: 6/11/2017
    Bible: Joshua 1
    Length: 47 min.

Overview: The Book of Joshua has a connection back to Genesis 12 where God told Abraham to get thee out to the land and go into another land. The story of the land is central to the first five books of the Bible. God comes time and time again in sovereign grace to make the promise of the land live on. Here now in Joshua, we see the wilderness generation has come to an end and it was time for Joshua to arise from a life of service and enter a life of leadership. He is told- -Go and posses the promises with the Lord's presence.- There was a new phase and a new start. There are lessons for us in this new start----Lessons for a New Phase in the Life of God's people.----1. The reliability of God's Word.----In God's Word, the children of Israel had the promise of a land. The promises made to Abraham are still promises to God's people----- the promise is certain--- the promise is covenantal--- the promise is communicated----Gods word is reliable in all the phases in the life of God's people----2. The responsibility of God's people----The certainty of the promises of God don't nullify our responsibility but reinforce our duty----- remember we live under authority--- remember we need bravery--- remember the importance of unity----3. The reassurance of God's presence----Fears assail the people of God. It is easier to see giants than to see God. Unbelief is strong. As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. God's promise is true.----- it is true in the great commission--- it is true in general Christian living

    Bible: Romans 3:9-31
    Length: 43 min.

Overview: The theme of this passage is how a man can be right with God through the righteousness of Christ. We need to get these verses right and get them into our hearts.----There are five headings for these verses--1. The setting--The setting is the courtroom of heaven----2. The sovereign--The sovereign is God. He is the judge. God will always act with proper justice.----3. The standard--The standard is the law.----4. The verdict--The verdict is either that of being guilty or innocent.----5. The statement--The statement is by the deeds of the law no man can be justified. It is a statement of utter human hopelessness. We need to have a grasp of the proper use and understanding of the law of God. The law of God makes it clear that we need a Savior.
